Hey everyone,

I just got off the phone with the vet clinic and Grayness went home
today!  She's doing just fine after her hip surgery.

They performed an FHO, or Femoral Head Osteotomy.  Basically they trim
off the head of the femur so when the cat moves, the femur isn't
grinding against the pelvis.  It's a common surgery for cats and small
dogs with bad hip problems, according to my veterinary professor at
school.  But she went home with antibiotics, and the lady said she was
kicking her leg when they were trying to clean out her ears.  I'm so
happy!

Also, the lady said she's been getting calls from around the world to
make donations to help out with the bill.  She says she might go to
rpca and post something about the kitty's status and to thank
everyone.

Oh, I'm so glad Grayness is going to be fine.  The owner said he was
going to make a soft nest for her with her food and water nearby.
He's going to put a litter box nearby, but Grayness has never used one
before, so he hopes she uses it.  I think she will, because she won't
be able to move very far.

(pause)

I just called the owner and Grayness is walking!  She's able to take a
few steps but then falls down and gives the "I meant to do that" look.
I bet she's confused that she's trying to walk and run, but her legs
aren't working right.  Dolores has her in the bathroom with a bed food
and water.   But they don't have a litter box so she put down a few
towels.  hmmmmmmm....

I do have a spare litter box.  I bought it for Imp when he was a
kitten, but upgraded to a larger one when Mischief arrived. But they
might get one soon, so I'll call in a few days and if they haven't
gotten one, I'll leave it on their doorstep.

Take care,

Kristi

YEAH!!!!! If you talk to them, a cut down cardboard box might be better
with her leg and all. Thanks for the update. She sounds like she is doing
wonderfully!!

Great news Kristi!  I'm so glad to hear that she's doing ok and you and her
owners must be so happy.  I'm glad you followed those dogs and found Gray.

In other news, I phoned to try to donate and they said that everything was
already paid off!  Wow.

Great news, indeed. Purrs still coming for her recovery. Hope Gray
accepts the whole litterbox concept better than Rocky - who has yet to
use either of the two here, despite the fact that he spents every
night inside.

Thanks for the update.  That is good news, indeed.
I think the litter box is essential and they should not wait to put one
down.  If Grayness starts using the towels on
the floor, it could mean house soiling problems in the future.  Or, if she
refuses to go at all, it could cause constipation problems, and I don't know
how serious that would be with her hip surgery problems.

Kristi,

Tell the family to try Dr. Elsey's "Cat Attract" litter to try and get
Grayness to use the litterbox -- you can get it at Petsmart for about $12 --
I think it works very well.  They also make several kinds of similar litter
without the cat attraction scent that works equally well once she gets the
idea what to use the litterbox for.
Hope this helps.
