Does anyone know of a newsreader or OE plugin that lets you filter IPs (not
domains). I did some googling yesterday, but did not find what I wanted. I
may have to switch to Outlook and write my own.
TIA

Wonder if Dan's been checking out MicroPlanet Gravity any further. It at
least was able to block crossposted messages. I haven't had time to do
much anythin out of the ordinary now that we're moving, only sorting and
packing.
Can't remember where I downloaded Gravity, but did find it thru google.

I did a little searching earlier and found nfilter
http://www.nfilter.org/ I haven't checked it out yet but it looks
promising.

One word of warning: when you try to launch NP-120.exe to install
nfilter, you will get a warning about it not being a valid Win32
application. Apparently, the person who created it as a
self-installing archive did something wrong. The work-around is to
launch some other zip-reading program, such as the free program
QuickZip available from http://www.quickzip.org/, and tell it to open
NP-120.exe as a file. This will allow you to extract the contents.

Nfilter (Newsproxy) unfortunately doesn't seem to be compatible with
Windows XP Service Pack 2. I know it does work with Windows 98 Second
Edition.
The Xnews reader (http://xnews.newsguy.com) is freeware with good
filtering capability.

I read rpca through Google. They do not have a killfile and this is a
real mess. Can anyone tell me if this "nfilter" would work with
Google??

Nfilter only works when you get your news from a news server via nntp.
If you read news using Google, Google would have to filter out the usenet
spam. The people who use Google should let Google know what is going on.

Try talkaboutpets.com instead -- there's no killfile, so you have to make
a conscious decision not to click on unwanted userid's posts. But there
are NO garbage posts whatsoever. They filter it out, so we don't have to.

I thought "ISP" and "domain" were the same thing!

They are similar, but he was asking about filtering on IPs - that is,
Internet Protocol addresses. Very different than ISP.
And as far as the original question, no, I'm aware of any such plugin.

Nfilter could probably be set up to do so, since you can filter on any
header. Judging from my experience with in the last couple of days,
however, it doesn't seem entirely happy with XP service pack 2. It
works for a while, then hangs.
