You know,  we don't live in igloos or drive ski-doos to the shopping center
up here; however, our annual spring storm is upon us and there is a heavy
snowfall warning for today.  The grass is green, the trees are in leaf and
blossom, and the hummingbirds are here BUT ...

It won't stay long though.

Ew. It sounds like spring is at the same stage there as it is here in
southern Finland. I would hate it if there was a snow storm at this stage.
Brr! Just when you've peeled off all the thick winter clothes. They did say
on the weather forecast that there might be snow in Lapland (northern
Finland) today.

Purrs that you are not snowed in and it melts as quickly as it got there.

Why do I always do this when I reply to you Marina?  I always reply to
sender instead of group by accident then get a spam block reply.  Duh!

Here's what I wrote:

Hi Marina - yes, we sure do have weather in common.  I kind of like it
today - its not too cold so its just kind of fun!  I'm hoping the lawn will
be nice and green after this melts :-)

Ah, spring in Calgary,
where the snow falls eternal...
I remember it well, and my fingers go numb just remembering.

Just on the other side of the hills (in the Okanagan)
I'm debating whether it's too early yet to plant things out in the
garden. The rule is supposed to be the May long weekend, but the spring
has been really warm and dry. Too warm and dry. Particularly considering
our spectacular fire season last year.

A little snow might even be welcome...

Krista!  I haven't seen you for a while - then again I haven't been here for
a while either.  Good to see you!

Sam and I were just looking at a picture book of your spectacular fire
season yesterday - that must have been quite surreal.  I hope you get your
moisture soon - we've really needed it too.

Krista!!  We'll be camping outside of Oroville Washington on June 25th
We'll be staying at Osoyoos State park on the South shore of Osoyoos
Lake.  Any chance it's near your neck of the woods?

Eeeeew!  I am *so* relieved that we're not coming to town until July 1st.
Was just talking to my MIL in Calgary for Mother's Day and she did mention
something about snow.  YUCK!
I am already starting to worry about what I'll do if the temps are below
20C...don't want to pack any heavy clothes because we want to bring so much
back with us from our storage and need all the room we can get in our
luggage.

Hey Britta:  Just don't do the Jasper/Banff highway.  We've hit a snowstorm
every year we've driven it on that weekend.  One weekend, we were bike
riding it.  It sucked ...  and it wasn't just the weather - it was the 3
broken chains, 4 flat tires, and my husband forgetting to reattach his
brakes after changing a tire and then HEADING DOWN SUNWAPTA
PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Eek.

Hopefully, you'll be able to borrow some clothes and not bring all the warm
stuff.  Heck - give me a call - I've got 3 of everything from my former life
as a moutain woman before kids!

Take care,

Oh, man.  The weather better co-operate.  We'll be trundling along the
highway from Vancouver to Calgary in a rented U-haul around July 1st.  We
don't need no #$%$% storms, thankyouverymuch!  I'm really hoping that by
that time the summer will have really set in.
We do have winter jackets at my SIL's place in Calgary and my mom in
Victoria has our leather jackets.  I'm hoping to be able to get by with one
pair of sneakers and one pair of jeans and the rest summer clothes.  If
worse comes to worse, I can borrow from my SIL, although she is 4 inches
shorter than me!
We'll be in Calgary until July 9, maybe we should try to meet?

Oh, Britta!!
I'm in Kelowna -- which is right between. What route are you taking to
Calgary? How long are you in Vancouver?
(I'd love to meet)
And where will Vino be while you're over here?

And IMHO, you'll be fine with the clothes you describe. It's JULY - any
snow in Calgary in July can be waited out indoors pretty much. The
weather in the mountains is more likely to be wind than snow by then.

Hi Krista!  I have no idea what route we are taking to Calgary.  Whatever
the fastest one is.  We kind of want to get there in one day, renting this
U-Haul is going to be expensive, especially since it will be one way.
We are arriving in Vancouver on June 20th and we'll be around for 3 days or
so, then heading to Victoria and we'll be in Vancouver again for a day
before leaving on our trip to Calgary around July 1 or 2.
I'd love to meet, do you think that Kelowna is on the way to Calgary?  I'm
ashamed to admit that I can't remember.  I used to go to college in
Castlegar and drove that way a lot, but it didn't go through Kelowna.  But
I'd really like to avoid that horrible Hope/Princeton highway.  If we come
through Kelowna, we should do a quick stop for lunch and meet up :-)
Oh, by the way, you wouldn't happen to be interested in purchasing (very
cheap!) a very nice leather sectional or small dining room table with tile
top and 4 chairs???

Hey Britta:  I'd love to meet!  We're going away for week somewhere in there
so we'll just have to coordinate dates.  I'd love to meet you (I guess you
can't bring Vino :-(  ) and Dennis and I'd like you to meet the holy terror
Otis as well.  Besides, we have a chiminea in the backyard that you could
cuddle up to if the weather isn't warm enough :D

I'm wishing for good mountain pass weather for you - with nice weather, that
drive can be a really fun trip!

Let me check our dates with my husband and I'll e-mail you.  We'll just be
in Canmore anyway so we're not far.

BTW, how about those Flames????

Cool, I'm glad you want to meet :-)  I'd love to meet you and the holy
terror Otis too.  Yeah, let me know the dates, my email is badwilson at
yahoo dot com.  Somewhere between July 3 and 9 would be best.  We'll be
staying with my SIL who lives in the SE, but will be able to borrow a car no
problem.
Sheesh, are the Flames doing well?  I heard something a while ago, but am
totally clued out.  I really need to look on the internet.  They don't show
a single hockey game here :-(

A strange country, Canada. Here in Toronto a couple of days ago it was down
close to freezing, then yesterday we sweltered in 26 celsius temperatures.
Go figure.

It's like that here too - if you look at my pics, you'll see running in the
sprinkler two weeks ago.  It must be beautiful in TO now - I went to U of T
and always remember, with awe, the early springs.  Just don't get me there
in the hot summers though :-)

Beautiful! We're having the mildest spring I've ever experienced here in
Texas. We haven't had a single day over 85F (30C) yet and it's May
already! It's awesome!
