Lots42 The Library Avenger - 08 May 2004 19:07 GMT How many of you, despite the names for your felines, end up calling them 'Cat' a lot?
Jeanette - 08 May 2004 19:31 GMT > How many of you, despite the names for your felines, end up calling them 'Cat' > a lot? Nope, never call 'em 'Cat'
Ripley is aka 'Hey Stupid', "Rips" "Beautiful Boy' and "The Untalented Mr Ripley'
McCavity is aka 'Cav' 'Cavity Cat' "The Mysterious Mr McCavity" and "Where the hell is he?"

I've always called Maya my little girl, or pretty little girl. Bruiser was "the little guy" and then became "the big guy" at some point.
Nan - 08 May 2004 20:47 GMT >How many of you, despite the names for your felines, end up calling them 'Cat' >a lot? Does Rotten Cat count, or Spoiled Cat? Of course, I keep telling Tiger that I should have named him Herbie because he's such a "lovebug".

JoJo - 09 May 2004 05:28 GMT "rotten cat" or "rotten feline" is common if somebody gets into something they shouldn't. Mostly they get called their names, or nick names.

Marina - 09 May 2004 05:19 GMT > How many of you, despite the names for your felines, end up calling them 'Cat' > a lot? With two cats, that would be impractical. ;o) But I have lots of pet names for Frank and Nikki, and I do call them kitty now and then, if the other one isn't close by and no confusion is possible. Actually, since I speak Swedish to my cats, I call Frank "kissen" and Nikki "missan". Thos eare both pet names for cats in general.

O J - 09 May 2004 06:49 GMT >How many of you, despite the names for your felines, end up calling them 'Cat' >a lot? Well I do, but it's along the lines of, "Oh, who is daddy's good cat? Who is daddy's sweet cat? Who is daddy's precious cat? Are you daddy's pretty cat? Oh yes you are. You're daddy's good cat aren't you?
This can go on and on for some time.

Single-mindedness is all very well in cows or baboons; in an animal claiming to belong to the same species as Shakespeare it is simply disgraceful. (Aldous Huxley)

>How many of you, despite the names for your felines, end up calling them 'Cat' >a lot? Well, Hugo Katt's name *is* katt (=cat in Swedish.) And Katt is the name he listens to - if he listens... I call him "Katt, katt, katte, katt, katti-katt, katt, katt..." when he is to come in.
What really works best is to call "katt-mat" = cat-food! Then he comes bounding like a shot. Elisabet
JBHajos - 09 May 2004 13:07 GMT >How many of you, despite the names for your felines, end up calling them 'Cat' >a lot? Just plain "cat", occasionally. We do call Hobo "Fat Cat" and Speckles "Rat Cat" more often.

Victor Martinez - 09 May 2004 14:36 GMT > How many of you, despite the names for your felines, end up calling them 'Cat' > a lot? Not cat, but I do use gato sometimes, usually followed by an expletive when someone is doing something bad. :) Even though I'm not specific, the culprit always knows I'm addressing him. Funny, it's always the boys that get the cussing... the girls rarely do thing bad enough to be yelled at. Such good girls!

"Come see the cat cat cat cat!" They all know what it means, and we don't use "Cat" to talk to any of our bunch -- except to scold, "You bad naughty terrible Cat!!"

Well, Polaris, Twinkle-Afar, and Jubilee are all well. Polaris has been outside a couple of times this spring now. Last summer, we visited my sister and came home with her cat, Harley Davidson. I've been revising the website. I haven't put pictures up for each cat quite yet, and I'm planning to add full stories from the rpca archives, but here's Harley's page: http://members.shaw.ca/kristac/Cats/harley.htm
I heard about The Dust (((((T.J))))) and it made me feel a bit "homesick" for rpca, so I've been lurking since then. Glad to see everyone is pretty much still here.

Harley is a sweet looking boy! He looks like he's smiling.

Glad to hear the other ones are doing well. Did they accept Harley right away?

Takayuki - 10 May 2004 02:24 GMT >How many of you, despite the names for your felines, end up calling them 'Cat' >a lot? I sometimes refer to Betty as "the cat" when discussing her with a third person, but I haven't called her that when speaking to her. She gets called "honey", "pie" (short for cutie-pie), "kitty-girl", "bright eyes", and "larva".

I guess that does sound weird. :) Sometimes, when I'm reading or working on the computer, I'll look up and notice Betty curled up like Joyce's Roxy pic here:
http://www.sonic.net/~jwermont/cats/new_pictures/roxy_fetching.html
Except Betty curls more into a "C" shape. When she does that, I'm supposed to squeal and exclaim, "Oh, why there's a little larva on the floor!" It looks like she's trying to do an impression. :)
