John is in the hospital.  He has (they think) diverticulitis.  I'm not
convinced of that since he said he felt something "pull" while helping a guy
carry something.  Hernia, anyone?

Tests show it's not appendicitis and he is convinced he will be able to go
home tomorrow.  I offered to come over - it's a 7 hour drive but half an
hour by plane.  He said no, he'll be out in the morning.  Okay, get some
rest.  Meanwhile, I'm not sleeping.  He insists we don't cancel his show or
our plans to meet next week yet, but dammit... just when things were going
right...

At least the neighbor is taking care of his fat cat, Kidder.

I don't know what diverticulitis is, but if he felt a "pull" while lifting
something, that certainly sounds like a muscle or tendon injury to me.

> Tests show it's not appendicitis

I can't imagine how it could be appendicitis. That's an infection, and
usually causes fever, nausea, and other systemic symptoms, in addition
to intense pain. If he's not sick as a dog, aside from the pain, that's
very unlikely to be the cause.

Hey, Jill - if your relationship has a good future (and good present as
well), this sure isn't going to stop it!

But I'm sorry to hear that he's not feeling well, and my three furballs
send purrs for a quick recovery.

> I don't know what diverticulitis is

It is when there is a small pocket in the intestine which becomes irritated
and inflamed - often exacerbated by things like sesame seeds, poppy seeds,
tiny things which get in there and irritate it causing pain and yes,
sometimes an infection.

I had (another) friend who had to have part of her intestines removed as a
result of this, so I'm a tad concerned.

I still think he has a hernia, which isn't much fun either.

Not necessarily true.  I worked with a woman who did not have a fever or
nausea - she developed some pain in her right side and she had just started
a new diet... she said she thought she was just hurting from being hungry!
Next thing she knew, she was doubled over and her appendix had to come out.

I agree re the hernia theory. "burning pain" is what they've been telling me
in the xray room for 30 years when lifting or pulling something gave them a
hernia (inguinal - at groin area).
One can live w/this condition but sooner or later it will require surgery to
replace the herniated (pouched-out) bowel section back where it belongs,
behind the musculature protecting it.

Purrs and healthy thoughts and wishes for your once and again boyfriend,
Jill.  Please keep us informed on how he's doing.

Rob had a hernia repair done during his second trip to Korea.  His dr
timed it so that he'd be able to heal while on his trip home for leave.
Can you say "no sex?"  I knew you could...
