Magic Mood Jeep? - 05 May 2004 14:23 GMT
I went to the local Pet Smart yesterday, and in their adoption center there
was a small, 8-10 week old kitten, white with black or grey spots.  Poor
thing was so tiny, had a very bad cold (URI), snot running down it 's
adorable pink nose, and had poop & cat litter stuck to it's butt.  When I
went back to adopt the kitten (even though I already have 4 healthy, if
somewhat lazy (yes, even Weeble), cats at home) after I had to discuss it
with DH, kitten was gone!   I inquired and the MOD said it had been taken
back to the shelter it originated from - about 50+/- miles north, in the
next county (Martinsville, in Morgan County)!

Well, I feel so bad for that tiny thing, and I'm kicking myself for not
acting impulsively when I first saw it - I can only hope that they didn't
euthanize it when it got back to the shelter.  I did find the shelter's
website and emailed them asking about the welfare of the kitten, and if it
would be at all possible that I donate money for the medical care of this
kitten, if not adopt.

I haven't heard back from them yet, but according to their website, they are
closed on Wednesdays, and they were already closed by the time DH & I got
home yesterday evening.

Please, can everyone send lotsa purrs that the kitten is still alive and is
getting treatment?

Oh, absolutely!!!  Many, many purrs are on their way.  Fingers and
paws crossed, hoping the kitten will get help and be all right.  Will
be thinking about him/her.

Even if the shelter is closed, someone should be there and may answer the
phone today.

It's very sweet of you to try to help out this kitten! Have you tried
calling the shelter directly? That would probably give you faster results
than email. How long ago did they send the kitten back to the shelter?
If it was just a day or two ago, then they probably haven't euthanized
it. Don't most shelters have a "sick ward"? And it is a kitten, after
all - so there's a good possibility for adoption.

I hope it turns out OK for the kitty!

I did manage to call the shelter today - the person who answered the phone
said that no cats were returned to the shelter from the Bloomington Pet
Smart, she said that the worker (who feed, waters & cleans the cages at Pet
Smart, they are volunteers for the shelter) probably took it home for some
TLC.

I'm going to call them again tomorrow - after I check at Pet Smart just in
case Sniffles (my tentative name for the guy) makes a re-appearance.

That's a relief!  That kitten must be awfully cute to have enslaved
you so easily. :)  From your description, it sounds like the kitten
looks like another recent ailing adoptee, Yertle.

Many many purrs for the wee one. I'm glad they took him from the adoption
center as it sounds like he was too ill to be there. I'm sure they are
caring for him and he'll be back when he's feeling better.

Magic Mood Jeep? - 08 May 2004 16:14 GMT
From my first update:
:I did manage to call the shelter today - the person who answered the phone
:said that no cats were returned to the shelter from the Bloomington Pet
:Smart, she said that the worker (who feed, waters & cleans the cages at Pet
:Smart, they are volunteers for the shelter) probably took it home for some
:TLC.

:I'm going to call them again tomorrow - after I check at Pet Smart just in
:case Sniffles (my tentative name for the guy) makes a re-appearance.

On Thursday, my DH took the day off from work, so we weren't home much of
the day (running errands & such), therefore I didn't get a chance to call
the shelter.  We did stop by Pet Smart, but no Sniffles :(.

Yesterday, I got no answer when I called them :(

I have still not received any reply from my email (and I have emailed them
twice) - Grrrrrrrrrrr.

On another note, my DH may have to start working 16+ hour days, the factory
where he works (Visteon, in Bedford, IN) is having some problems:  The local
UAW contract is up for renewal, expires the 15th of this month - they've
been arguing about it for the past 3 months.  My hubby is NOT part of that
union (he's a salaried employee - part of the head of the machine
maintenance dept), and there's been talk of a strike - that and that the
Corporation head (in Dearborn, MI) announced that if some pay/benefit cuts
were not taken by the UAW union( some of the LOWEST paid workers still make
over $15/hour), they would start moving production elsewhere (there's
speculation that 'elsewhere' is Mexico, even though Corp says Georgia or
Mississippi), and cut employment by 1/2 (the factory employs roughly 1,200
hourly & salaried - and Bedford is a fairly SMALL town), and if there IS a
strike, all the salaried will pitch in to keep the factory running - that is
unless Corp doesn't just say "you had your chance to save your jobs - see ya
later" and just close the plant entirely!  There are some UAW workers that
are screaming that 'corporate greed is taking our jobs', but it's not just
that - it's their own greed for wanting $20/hour just to stand there and
watch a machine make auto parts* or to just push a button every 3 minutes...
sigh!

Enough rambling about my woes.... I'll keep phoning & looking for Sniffles
--
*the parts that Visteon makes at this particular parts are for the
windshield washer system (fluid reservoir, fluid pump, etc.) and fuel gages
(the part that goes into the gas tank that the indicator in your dashboard
is attached to) and fuel senders (not the actual fuel pump at the engine,
but another one in the gas tank that keeps the pressure even in the fuel
line going to the pump at the engine - without which your engine would
probably sputter every time you went up hill)

Purrs on the way for the little one, both to get well and to find
