Just checking.... I do hope he has come home by now!
> Just checking.... I do hope he has come home by now!
No. He's not home, and I'm beginning to lose hope. We've put flyers through
over 500 doors over the last four days, and put posters up in local shops.
All the cat welfare groups are aware that he's missing. He's wearing a snap
collar with ID, and is microchipped. Tomorrow I will post photographs of him
to every vet in the area. I can't think of anything else that I can do. I
miss him so much, and I'm worried sick about him. This will be his fifth
night away from home, I just feel empty and lost with worry.
This hurts so much more than having Izzi and Fenda put to sleep, yes, I miss
them every day, but at least I know that they're not hurting. It's hard to
believe that Cav only lived with us for less than five weeks, he really got
under our skin. On the positive side, he is a young healthy cat, and despite
only having one eye, he's fast enough to be able to hunt if he has to.
Thanks for asking Pat, it's good of you.

The rest of us are still beaming homing purrs for McCavity over to your
side, and are on pins and needles as the saying goes waiting for word of his
prodigal self returning.

We're keeping our fingers crossed and the furkids will keep up the purrs.
Please don't forget to try setting out a trap in your area. Remember
that indoor cats that escape to the outdoors shift into survival mode
and behave completely differently than they did while indoors.

Thanks Dan, but Cav isn't an indoor only cat. From what I've been able to
find out about his previous homes, he's always been allowed to go outside.
I'm also sure that he isn't around home, as I've been putting food out every
night, and it's untouched in the morning.

Jeanette, I do know how you feel -but don't lose hope. One of my
ex-foster cats escaped from his new foster home while I was away on
holiday last spring. He had only been there 3 days. He was a semi-feral,
7-month old kitten cat, who had been indoors since 9 weeks old. We did
the same - hundreds of leaflets, which we repeated over the course of
several months, posters, alerting every vet, rescue group, council, in
the area etc. Sat out at night calling for him, leaving food all over
the place, racing round to people's gardens at the drop of a hat if they
rang. He had no collar but was microchipped. We had several false alarms
over the summer and I began to lose hope although I somehow felt he
would be OK. Well in February this year we got a call from a man who had
been feeding a stray cat in his greenhouse for months but felt he should
be taken into care. It was my lost foster cat - after 8 months living
rough. He had grown so much he was hardly recognisable -but his
microchip confirmed it was him. He was living two roads away from where
our leaflets had stopped. Despite only being in the home for 3 days he
hadn't gone more than about 3-4 roads away. And he was looking great!
He'd had 2 meals a day from the man, and even a bed in the greenhouse.
Even though he was semi-feral he knew that people would give him food.
Don't give up - and remember, people will quickly forget you are still
looking, so keep reminding them he is still lost. Re-leaflet if
necessary every 2-3 weeks, put up posters on lamp-posts too. If he has a
distinguishing feature (such as only one eye) that is a great help when
asking people to look as it really narrows down the field. Good luck,
and please don't lose hope - miracles do happen.
Deb.

Thanks Deb. I plan to do that. If I've not heard anything in a fortnight's
time, I'm going to put out leaflets again saying that he's still missing.

> Thanks for asking Pat, it's good of you.
I remember how I nearly lost my mind when Cotton disappeared in the desert
when I lived in Arizona. I had already lost several cats to the coyotes in
that area, and Cotton was never one to stray out of earshot of my voice or
be gone for more than an hour or so. Yet on this one occasion he was gone
for TEN DAYS, which I spent in almost non-stop searching. I was certain by
that time that I would never see my Cotton-cat again.
On the evening of the 10th day, however, suddenly there he was, looking like
he just woke up from a nap or got dropped off by whatever spaceship he was
on all that time.
Miracles DO happen! And we're all purring hard for one to bring McCavity
back to you. Please post here as soon as you can if/when he returns.

Years ago my Ginger tom was gone for three weeks. We later found out
he had been sleeping in a neighbor;s basement bedroom wih her son.
The son didn't question the cat -- he thought his mother had acquired
it without telling him. Good luck and purrs for hid return. MLB

I'm so sorry, Jeanette. We are still purring for McCavity to come home. Do
you think a neighbour could have gone on holiday and accidentally locked him
in somewhere? Don't know how to discover him in that case, though. Wish
there was something I could do.
