Purrs please: the bloodbath

I came home today to find blood everywhere. In the staircase, all over the
kitchen into the dining room, in our bedroom, on the guest bed, by the
litter boxes. I don't know whose it was, the cats are all a little skittish,
but not apparently injured.

By luck, I have an appointment at TED tomorrow morning. It was supposed to
be for Pippin and Yogi's checkups and shots.  I will be hauling Pippin and
Fizz in instead.  Those two have been fighting worse and worse over the past
few months.  Fizz stalks Pippin and whaps him hard and fast with his front
paw.  Pippin's been fighting back more recently, but Fizz is almost twice
his size.  Pippin tries to cut a wide berth around Fizz where possible, but
the attacks are more frequent.  It's possible that Fizz's urine crystals are
up again, which can make him very aggressive.  I'm very worried that I will
ultimately have to re-home Fizz, as everyone's stress levels are way up.  I
had tried Feliway diffusers for a month a while back, they may have helped
Pippin be less skittish, but did nothing to ease Fizz's attacks.

Purrs please, I'm heartbroken and scared for my boys.

Betty is sending soothing purrs.  At least it sounds like nobody was
hurt?!  Strange how there was all that blood, and it's not even
possible to tell whose it was.  Cats are good at cleaning the evidence
off themselves!

Purrs aplenty. That's very scary. I hope all turns out well with the boys.

Sometimes Maluce leaves blood on floor when she hoarks up a big
hairball.....something that has only begun about 4 months ago (they're all
shorthaired cats). If nobody seems injured, maybe it's not too bad.

There could be puncture wounds you might not find until they abcess.
Ears bleed freely. Maybe you can give them a good check. I hope you
can solve Fizz's aggression/ crystal problem. Maybe they could be
separated in different rooms when you are not there to watch them?
Purrs,

Hi Caroline,

Did you check everyone's claws? I have had a cat pull a toenail out, and it
did look like a knife fight had occurred! Blood everywhere! At first sight,
everyone looked ok, but when I did the 'full body inspection', I found the
broken nail. I cleaned it up and put a little antibiotic ointment on it, and
he was fine.

Oodles of purrs coming over both for you and for the boys. It  must be
upsetting for all of them. I hope you find a solution to calm down Fizz so
you don't have to rehome him.

{{{hugs}}} purrs indeed that they'll settle down. Hope the TED visit
goes well. Seems strange to be hoping for urine crystals, but if Fizz
gets aggressive and that's the problem, hopefully TED can fix the
problem.

Oh Caroline, I'm so sorry that must have been horrible
coming home to that lots and lots of Purrs that no real
damage has been done, and that you can work things out
so you dont have to lose Fizz, and Fizz can learn tha its not nice to treat
other family members like that
Good luck at the Vets   Jean.P.

Oh no, Caroline!  Major purrs!  To be honest, this is my big fear, too
'cause our five don't necessarily get along too well. After ruling out
physical problems, maybe you could see if your vet can recommend a
behaviorist.  Also, I have been giving my cats either Rescue Remedy or Calms
Forte -- they are both available at health food stores.  The Calms Forte is
a pill that I pulverize and mix in with the glucosamine powder that they
get -- I add 2 tsp of warm water to the mix and then put a handful of their
dry food on top.

A house is not a home, without a cat.

I'm so sorry.  I hope it works out and you don't have to re-home Fizz.  Many
purrs coming up.
