Well, after my aged mobile gave up the ghost, I have got myself a new one.
Guess what sound the ringtone is?

Yup - a cat meowing ;-)

How neat! That's *much* an improvement over the usually cell phones you
hear...which ring tunes more obnoxious than the afore-discussed Ice Cream Man's
truck.

Yes, there's one tune that is particularly ubiquitous - so much so that
I recently saw a documentary made in Venezuela, and someone's cell phone
in the movie "rang" that same tune!! I was watching with some friends and
starting humming along with the tune. I guess it's world-famous.

I heard a cell phone the other day that sounded like a chicken
clucking, as if it had just laid an egg.

I've got that one on the phone too - I use it as the ring tone for the alarm on

Ha!  That's exactly what I wanted that Ice Cream Truck MIDI for.  I really
want to annoy Dennis and all those around me.  That song is played all the
time around here since there is an ice cream truck on every corner and
everyone hates that song.  Bwahahahaha!  Alas, I will have to try harder for
my evil satisfaction :-(

My ISP was in evil mode when that thread was going strong, and I then
forgot to post.  The main nasty Ice cream truck song around here is
"Little Brown Jug."  I really hate that song.

Forgot to mention, while setting the ringtone, when I discovered the cat
one, Persia was napping on my bed in the other room.... then my phone
started going MEOW, MEOW! and she came running, looking everywhere for the

It's *basic* which suits me as I want my phone to use as a phone, not as a
video/stills camera or to solve the meaning of life :-) It's also small & light
which is ideal for me, as I always carry a mobile when I'm out cycling.

Oh, yes, I'm considering switching from Nokia to some other brand. I simply
don't *want* all the bells and whistles that come with their new models.

Oh, I like my Nokia; its smaller than a lot of the others, doesn't "flip" or
"fold", and unlike my coworker's Nextel, doesn't blow me away when it does
ring. It did come with extra nonsense that I just either don't use or nixed
w/the Great Kahuna at AT&T when I got it.
Most of that stuff is for kids. I might be interested in a picture phone
when the resolution is a helluva lot better.

Nokia is the only brand I like.  It's the only one in which the menus make
sense and you can use it right away without spending a whole day reading
manuals and learning to find stuff.  Siemens is the worst.  I'd never use
it, get frustrated when friends ask me to find a friend on their list and
call them from their phone (while friend is driving or something).

Thanks for the info, Britta. Maybe I'll have to stick to Nokia anyway. I've
never actually handled any other brand of mobile, since everyone I know
seems to have a Nokia (not that surprising, since it is, after all, a
Finnish company). My BIL works in R&D at Nokia. They are aware that some
people would like simpler models, but the money is in selling toys for young
people.

Woo Hoo!!  I have a Finnish Fone!!  We recently joined the 21st century
and got a Nokia cell phone.  I'm still playing with it and learning how
to use it.  No calls received on it yet, but then we tend to keep it
turned off.  It will be turned on for the trip though and if any of you
want/need the phone number, please email me and I'll get back to you

All I want is a basic phone, the caller ID, and ability to store
around 30 phone numbers. I have one of the low end nokias which works
pretty well for I want. I would like one that rings louder than this
one, though. The volume is adjustable of course, but when I'm running
lawn equipment I don't hear it. Tried going the vibrating route, but
when the equipment you're using is vibrating, you don't feel a
vibrating phone.

Why, Steve, I don't think anyone could hear a phone ringing while running
lawn equipment!
My lawn care dude just checks his cell phone frequently to see if he's
"missed" any calls to it. I think you'd call my Nokia one of the "low-end"
models as well.
Marina, you'd have no way to know this, but Siemens, which I believe is a
Germany-based company, makes the finest xray equipment $ can buy; when I
first started in the business, they were the undisputed leader in quality
equipment, but over the years the USA has some companies that rival them
bigtime at present time. I always LOL @ Siemens manufacturing cell
phones.....wierd to me, like deBeers making belly-button rings.....but you
know what they say about German technology and workmanship.

Well, Nokia originally manufactured car tires and rubber boots, among other
things. I have an old pair of black Nokias on the island. ;o)

They *still* manufacture car tires and rubber boots, only they *also*
manufacture cellphones and computers, are in paper and forestry as well
as cable (making actual cables, not distributing tv-programs). The tires
are at Nokian Renkaat and the boots at Nokian Jalkineet.

You're probably right, though I know some ring a lot louder than mine.
Now I just leave the phone in the truck and check for missed calls
between yards. Mine is definitely a low end model, as it's the same
model the wireless company gave me when I signed up.

Not the same phone though. A couple years ago I was working on
replacing a sprinkler in an irrigation system and dropped the phone in
the hole filled with muddy water. Didn't notice when it happened, so
it was full of gunk by the time I drained the water out of the hole
and discovered I'd dropped it. Thing still rang when dried out, but
the display was messed up and half the buttons didn't work.

Mine is a Siemens - and I've finally come into the 21st century; never had a
cell before!  But I figured, what the heck, looks like I'm going to be doing
a lot of traveling ;)

So I got the cheapest plan possible - Cingular with just a few local minutes
since it's for emergencies, really.  Free long distance which I need - and
the phone was free, too.  There's all sorts of animal ringtones, and you can
assign different tones for different people or groups.  For people who
aren't in my address book, my phone whinney's like a horse.  The other
night, it started going off and I thought it was the television; then I
realized I didn't have the TV on.  Where the hell is that horse sound coming
from?  ROFL  It was a wrong number.

I have Nokia 3560 and I wanna (whiny voice) ringtone of a kitty meowing!
Where can I get one off the Internet? My present ringtone is a dumb song
that came w/this model. My former model played both "Wipeout" and "Sweet
Child of Mine" but I downloaded those years ago and can't find them now. I
wanna kitty meowing.......(sniffle).

current ringtone is the theme from Bagpuss, a childrens TV show in Britain.

Mine's a Nokia 3510, very basic but with polyphonic ringtones. My indoor
ring tone (a more quiet profile) is the theme from Pink Panther, and my
outdoor ring tone (the *loud* profile, that I can hear from my purse in
traffic noise) is the theme from Winnie the Pooh... :)  I may be a

Neat! Wonder if I can get that as an alarm sound for my PDA.....

Might get confusing, with Felix around. I think I'll stick to the

I want one like that.  I really do.  Our new one has provision to put a
midi on it, but I'm a technical dunce, and Rob refuses to help.  Sigh.
Any of you on our route have any idea how to put a ring on an Alltel

Mine's the Nokia 7210 and it has an infrared port.  So I had to get an
infrared port for the computer (just a tiny little thing you plug into the
USB port) and I downloaded some free Nokia software which lets you change a
MIDI into a ringtone.  I don't know if it would be similar with an Alltel
phone, you could do a Google search.
