I really need a MIDI of that ice cream truck song.  You know the one that
you can never get out of your head once you hear it?
dum dee dum
dum dee dum
dum dum dee dum-dum dum-dum
Anyone know where I could download that?  Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Believe me when I tell you that daily, we have about 10 ice-cream trucks
driving through our residential block here in south FL, the land of heat and
humidity. They ALL have a different "song" blasting out of their vehicles.
We need more clues than your "dum dee dums", LOL.

Is it anything like this one:  ;)

"Deedly deedly dee-dee-dee
Dee- de dee- de dum dum,
Deedly deedly dee-dee-dee
Dee- de dee- de dum dum,
Deedly deedly dum dum dum dum!"

Been hearing that all my life.

I could probably notate it musically, but I couldn't get it into the
newsreader. ;)

Hi Theresa,

That particular song is "The Entertainer" by Scott Joplin. My hubby says
that they also used to use "Pop goes the Weasel".  The only song that came
to mind on the first one (dum dee dum, dum dee dum) was.. whenever you see a
hearse go by... (Sorry!)

No, I'm sorry  to contradict you, but it's not.  You must have misread
my "deedly dums." ;)

I'm a musician, and very well-acquainted with that and other Joplin
rags.
The ice cream truck tune is a very distinct tune, played by ice cream
trucks in my town ("Mister Softee"!) since I was a litle kid, and I've
never heard it anyplace else-- except--
The tune was heard being played by a rather menacing Mister Softee
truck in the movie, "After Hours."

PS, the www.mistersoftee.com  site plays the first phrase of the tune.
They reproduced the sheet music here:

The music does get stuck in your head, but those words are really
hideous.;)

I didn't hear anything. Is there a page to go to where it would play the
music? (I did see the sheet music page, but no sound came out.)

The music plays if you go to this page:

Turn up your speakers, you should hear it in all its annoying glory.

ROFLMAO....no, have never heard the refrains of "Did you ever think, when a
hearse went by, that you might be-e the next to die?.....etc." coming from
*any* ice-cream truck around here! Yeah, the "Entertainer", several German
tunes (Edelweiss), and also, "Pop Goes the Weasel", as well as a dude whose
truck plays "Hava Nagila" (sp?), not to mention another wafting "LaBamba"
along our block. All do humongous business from now till about Dec.

Ours play the Laurel and Hardy theme song. You know,
de-de-de-de-dum,
de-de-de-de-dum,
de-dum-de-dum-de-dum

Over and over and over and over. Last week they came up behind our house,
just below my balcony and played that, and Nikki came rushing in with her
tail poofed out.

OK, I listened to this. Didn't recognize it at all. I guess there wasn't

Smudge seemed to find the music a bit alarming.

Ours played Pop Goes the Weasel for so long that when they changed it,
Charlie went out and thanked the guy.

(There are certain advantages to being deaf.  Ice Cream truck music is one)

Ok. Thanks for clearing up the deedly's.  ;)  Now after seeing his picture
I am a bit concerned for the poor guy with the icecream for hair and just
why did he get the name Mr Softee? Mrs Softee couldn't be very happy?

The ice cream trucks in my old neighborhood in Sunnyvale (California, for
the rest of you, though Hopitus knows exactly where that is - we just
discovered that we lived about 2 blocks apart from each other!! - but at
different times) used to play "It's a Small World". Aaaaaagh!!

Isn't that the truth! Our regular ice cream man's truck played this
unbelievably grating version of "Fur Elise" of all things.

Ours always play "Greensleeves"  - does that help?

Its the sound of icecream to me, and always has been. I can't imagine an
icecream truck with any other sound, quite frankly, nor can I imagine the
icecream from an icecream truck anything other than under-frozen,
overcornfloured sickly pap with any resemblence to anything dairy related
completley coincidental.

And yet when I hear that sound, there's still part of me that wants to race
out of the house, flag him down and get a double choc-coated one. If all
goes to plan, it should fall off the cone into a melted heap onto the
scorching asphelt and be eaten by a neighbour's dog before I get more than
two licks, and then I can scream hysterically allt he way home and get far
better quality icecream out of the freezer from Mum (although without the
cone), but thats what childhood icecream truck memories are all about.

badwilson - 29 Apr 2004 03:11 GMT
Hmmm, I can't give you more than that because if I had the MIDI, I wouldn't
be asking for it.  The ice cream trucks here all play the same song, it's
very short and repetitive.  I've heard it before in Canada too so I didn't
think it was an Asian thing.  Maybe I'll just have to get a program and
compose my own.

The ones around here play "The Band Played On"  Here is a link to a web site
that plays the music.  You have to wait quite awhile to get to the chorus.
Approximately 1/3 to 1/4 of the midi line.

Is this the one you are talking about?

Its not Greensleeves by any chance is it?
the dum de dums sound a bit like it and
its a popular tune for Icecream carts;
I wake up a few times at night, and if I have a
song on my mind it starts up in my head as
soon as I open my eyes, its murderous. Jean.
