Warmer weather

dirtylitterboxofferingstospammers - 27 Apr 2004 09:04 GMT A sure sign of warmer weather... Waffles out in the garden in the morning and within minutes I hear "MMMOOOWWZZ!" quickly followed by a small dead rodent being dropped at my feet. Obviously she thinks I require protein for breakfast. Yesterday's breakfast offering was a mouse. This morning's is a shrew.
Not bad for a one-eyed cat the vet said would not be able to catch mice again ;-)

She'll have to wait another couple of months, poor girl.

When I was in grad school, I knew a lovely German lady who loved fancy and flamboyant shoes. She once wore a pair of slip-on flats that were decorated in the front to look like cat's faces, complete with whiskers sticking out on either side. I complimented her on them, and she said she wore them "in caze there vere any mouzes in ze building." ;)
Speaking of mouses, Stinky has just now shoved a catnip one behind the computer desk, past where he can fit his round little body, and he is rummaging his paw wildly back there, going "rrrrrrrrrrrr! rrrrrrrrRRRRR!"
What a little character. ;)

jmcquown - 30 Apr 2004 13:35 GMT Why is it, every time I read this modified subject line, I hear an odd version of Gloria Estefan's "Turn the Beat Around" in my head? "Turn the mouse around... love to tease them mousies... turn 'em upside dowwwwn, love to eat them mousies!" This is going to drive me crazy!

This is obviously a very serious case. So what you have to do now, is close your eyes, concentrate very hard, and sing:
"We've got a gorilla for sale, Magilla Gorilla for sale, Handsome, elegant, intelligent, sweet, He's really ideal!"

Dammit, stop this immediately! I will sue you all for driving me insane with silly magilla songs! :)
BTW, the "movie star" line reminds me - anyone who wants to see my oldest (I'd forgotten I have it) vintage 1929 slinky gown, a la Claudette Colbert, shoot me an email. I plan to take this on my trip and greet him at the door wearing it, wine glass in hand. Very black & white movie theme going here.
And would someone please shoot the Miami Sound Machine? And the Flintstones... and Magilla... and STOP singing about that stupid island! ROFL

Hopitus2 - 30 Apr 2004 18:39 GMT You all have a lot of nerve. First, you get my head full of ice-cream truck songs and now sit-com! That "love to eat them mousies" deal was the brainchild of a dear man who adored cats and understood them named B. Kliban, who lived out-of-the-limelight in San Francisco. He died some years ago, but my family loved all his work and I still have some things w/B. Kliban cartoons on them. You would recognize his cartoons in a heartbeat.

I have ordered a tote bag & T-shirt from e-bay before. I didn't know the story of the creator, though. I also have a Kliban cat clock, which is broken, but I loved it so much I can't bear to throw it away.

He is the originator of the term "meatloaf" to describe a certain cat position we're all familiar with. (Credit for derivatives, such as the verb "meatloafing" will have to go to other people, such as folks on this ng.)

Why don't I remember that one? I was a faithful Sesame Street watcher for at least 10 years. Sometimes I'd be watching it when the kids weren't. I *do* still remember every word of "Me and My Llama" though. "Me and my Llama, just out of our pajamas We're going to the dentist today"

It's probably only in the 60's here, which for this time of year is unheard of. Not that I'm going to complain; it might make for a less hot/humid summer and fewer mosquitos in my neck of the woods.

I live in Nashville, in Central Tennessee (for non-US members of the newsgroup). It has been fairly cool here too. A common pattern here is to be warm and humid in mid-spring, then turn cool in late spring, and then suddenly turn hot and humid, usually in early June.
