Last fall i wrote about Buddy, an orange tabby, and Emanuel. Buddy
disappeared just before Halloween. The little boy was heart-broken.

Almost exactly six months later, just this past weekend, Emanuel and
his father were out in the open garage. They saw a scruffy orange cat
that came to the yard and rolled in the dirt. The boy was sure it was
Buddy and called to the cat. The cat turned and looked at him and when
Emanuel started toward the cat, it ran away. The boy called again and
the cat stopped and looked. The boy started twoard the cat again and
again the cat ran.

The boy and his father are sure it is Buddy, despite looking so
scruffy. It is the way the cat moved and his body structure. They are
hopeful of taming him. They put food and water out for him. This
morning some of the food was gone.

If the cat had been dumped in the country he would take a long time
getting back home and have a hard life scrounging food through the
winter. Chased by dogs and coyotes and dodging traffic and even people
shooing him away. Naturally he would be scared. It will take time and
patience to regain his trust. But I think once he is in the house
among the old smells, his memory will assert itself over the fear. But
catching him won't be so easy.

Buddy and Emanuel desperately need the powerful rpca purrs for their
eventual reunion.

Wow, this is wonderful if it really is Buddy. Many purrs coming over that he
calms down. When I found Frank after he had been AWOL for five weeks, he was
already very skittish with me, and it took me a long time to capture him. It
was the funniest thing: I gave him some kibble on the ground and while he
was eating I snook up close enough to gently drop his harness on his back,
and something went snap in his head when he felt the harness and he started
purring and headbutting me like mad. We are hoping that Buddy suddenly
remembers his person in the same way.

I saw the family again today. The cat has been there several times and
is eating the food. But he still won't come to the family. However, he
no longer runs. The father put buddy's old scratching post and some of
his old toys on the porch. I told him maybe put catnip on the post. It
will be next week before I see them again; but i am in email contact
with them. I hope to hear good news soon. My heart aches just thinking
what he has been through the last six months and being deprived of the
love he grew up with.

Well, hey, CAT, cheer up...at least Buddy found his way home at last and is
not somewhere on the mean streets of MileHigh scrounging through garbage
cans for his next meal. He'll calm down. BT Rowdy was so mean I had to keep
him isolated in our utility (laundry) room for a *month* before he became
civil enough to meet the incumbent dowagers inside, and my vet agreed
laundry room beat the h*** out of the local shelter as a temporary
residence.

Well, I hope they catch him soon. I am sure his memory would caome
back once he is surrounded by familiar things.

Purrs that it really is Cuddy, and that he calms down soon. Have they
been able to positively id him, yet? Even if he turns out not to be
Buddy, sounds like his found a home.

Not a positive id; just intuition. It is quitem a coincidence that an
identical cat comes to their place and rolls in the dirt like a cat at
home and seems to partialy recognize the name. I hope they get him in
soon. They are scheduled for big, noisy house repairs soon. That could
scare him away if they don't have him sequestered in the boy's
basement bedroom soon. I have passed all the purrs along and they are
very grateful.

I will be seeing them tomorrow. I hope there is a good update. I would
like to catch a glimpse of him myself. I remember he was long and
lanky with a long tail. I will let you know as soon as I have news.

Oh, I hope SO much that the kitty really is Buddy! I hope they'll give
thought to setting out a trap. If they can trap the kitty and get it
indoors into a safe environment they can then set to work on slowly
socializing him again.

The kitties and I will be sending all the purrs we can muster.

Purrs for a happy reunion!  My first cat, Karma, disappeared for
several months, but eventually, my mother convinced him he was home,
and it was a happy ending until his later death.  Hope Buddy realizes
he's home soon.

This is an incredible development!  I wonder what drove him off in the
