Well I am just sorry but I don't like not being owned! I need a furry master to
put me in my place. I need rules. I need to know my proper station. I cannot
just go through life free!!!!
So... it has been decided that we will be getting 2 kittens. We had been
seriously considering getting a kitten for months now. We thought Dusty would
like a friend, (or maybe not). I have been checking out the fostering and
rescue sites in town looking for some new masters. I came across two litter
mates, one all black, one all white, they were named Oreo and Avalanche. They
were only 7 weeks old and had been raised inside with a dog and 2 kids.
Purrrfect! By the time I called they had already been "reserved". They sure
went fast! Oh well. There are several new litters (guess it's kitten season)
being fostered now. When they get a bit older we will go and put ourselves on
display and see if we are lucky enough, or worthy enough to be chosen by any. I
really want littermates. So if all goes well we should be properly ruled by
some new masters at the end of June or beginning of July.
As a family we agreed that right now was a bit to soon to bring in another pet.
This works out perfectly. We have a couple of months to prepare. DH still
wants to get a dog. We figure once the cats are over a year old and have some
size to them we can introduce a puppy. At least they will be able to properly
whomp... er.. train the dog on who runs the show! My daughter went to that
random cat name generator and has come up with a list of names for the kittens,
she is partial to Ender, Uranus, Fluffy and Homer. (um, I think she needs to
keep generating, no offense to Fluffy the dog). I have come up with Loki and
Luka so far. Well that's all for now.
Purrs,
TJ

I'm really glad to read this, TJ. I'm still wiping away the tears after
reading your post about bringing home the Dust. I almost responded to
your sign-off by saying I suspected you'd have a new master before long.
Then I decided the timing is something you have to decide, so I didn't
post it. Your solution sounds perfect.

TJ, I can't begin to tell you how happy this makes me and it will
do the same for the rest of the group. I know it's not time yet, but
I'm so glad that you're starting to find room in your heart again.

Littermates! That makes me laugh and reminds me that when Sumo
picked me out for himself and Natasha (cagemates at the shelter), that
I was looking at The Siamese Triplets.

Sounds like a good plan. I want to share something my vets told me when we
brought in a 3-month-old Akita in May, '90, to live w/our then larger group
(about 5) of mature cats. They said look out if you're bringing in kittens
or cats to an incumbent household full of mature dogs......but if the Akita
grew up w/our cats, they would soon show him who was running things here.
And that's exactly what happened. Although he weighed 130# at his prime, he
never hurt one hair on any of the cats, and was especially fond of Oliver,
who used to sleep with him, nestled between his outstretched paws. Like most
Akitas, though, he was a one-person d-pet, and although never a real d-pet
person, I was his person he loved and was protective of to the death.

I"m sure Dusty & Kody would approve of your plan - in fact, probably
implanted the idea in your head in the first place.
Condolences once again,

Good for you, TJ!!! I'm so glad to hear that you will be owned once again.
I too would not like being a freed catslave. I can't wait to hear about
your kitties, littermates sound perfect. Although I sure hope you're
planning to veto the name Uranus.

LOL, it might be embarrassing if you had to stand at your front door,
calling for him/her. :)
TJ, glad to hear you're getting right back in the saddle! :) Two kittens
sound wonderful, especially with a few months to get ready for them. I'll
bet Kelsey will love having kittens around!

At this point, I yelled YAY! and the cats looked at me in disgust. Can't
wait to hear more about your future masters. Getting two is a great idea.

This is good news, TJ! I just finished reading your post about
picking up Dusty, and was glad to read that your hearts are mending.
Kittens should help the process - I'm betting Dusty implanted this in
your brain, knowing that you couldn't stay sad with kittens in the
house. I am looking forward to stories and pics when the time comes!

Why not get a puppy very soon after you get the kittens, and let them grow
up together?

That would be fun wouldn't it? :) We are either going to get another Australian
Shepherd or a Border Collie or a German Shepherd. All big puppy dogs even when
they are little. We got Kody dog when Dusty was 2 and they were the same size.
Dusty whomped his butt all day long, held him down in head locks and rabbit
punched him, bit his jugular.... if Dusty wasn't grown up I don't think he
would have been able to put that stinky d-pet in it's place. That's why I want
to wait. I want the cats to rule the roost first then "enslave" the d-pet!
I put up a few of my favorite Dusty and Kody pics. See how Dust enslaved Kody?

Congrats on the decision! If you were in Pittsburgh (and I'm assuming you
aren't) I have a few in need of a home in a few weeks. God I'm going to
hate to see them go. Have white ones (I think one has a home) and rest are
all black. Little Max is such a lover - absolutely LOVES being held. Sam
his brother, is ok being petted, but hates to be held, no matter what I try.
Good luck in your search, and yes, kitten season is upon us, in a few weeks
the shelters will be overrun again.

We were the same way when we lost our beloved Quetzie. It worked for us,
having Luna and Maya really helped us heal and allowed us to remember
Quetzie with smiles instead of tears sooner than we'd anticipated.
Littermates are the way to go, they do share a special bond. Male
littermates at least... Luna and Maya have issues, but then again, they
are girls... *grin*
As far as name goes... you have to wait until you see them so they can
tell you what their names are. Fez wouldn't be Fez with any other name
and Rufous just fits in his name perfectly. :)
Then again, Choco and Late (read latte) is a cute name for a pair of
hoolikittens... :)

I had to do that with Felix. The shelter had called him Soldier. OK
name, but he made it *very* clear that that was *not* HIS name. Took
me a few days to figure out who he is. :-)

That is great! As for names, I am sure they will tell you what they
are soon after you get them.
