In summary, this article (with photo) is about what happened when a
man in Tampa, Florida opened a crate of bird cages that had been
shipped to his business from China - out jumped a cat. The crate had
been shipped by boat from China to Los Angeles, and then by rail to
Tampa.

The kitty, dubbed "China", weighed about 3 pounds. She was given
intravenous fluids and food by county animal services, then
transferred to a veterinary clinic for more tests to see if she's ok.

The Florida businessman emailed the Chinese company about the extra
"item" in his shipment. The Chinese replied that they were very happy
to know their cat was still alive, but wanted to know what color it
was - they had 2 cats and both disappeared a month earlier! They asked
that the businessman raise the cat or put it up for adoption.

Sending purrs that China recovers from the ordeal and finds a good
home. Hope the folks back home can find out where his fellow cat ended
up, too, and purrs that it's alive and well.

The story reminded me of a cat we had here once, who was sort of the
official apartment complex liity and mascot. He made the rounds
sleeping with various tenants, and I was honored by his presence on my
bed about once a week. He disappeared, and we later found out that he
had hitched a ride in the moving van when someone moved out to the
west coast. Luckily, it was a much shorter trip, 3 or 4 days, between
leaving Oklahoma and being found in California, and he was fine.

LOL, yep sounds like S-D Sid had a lot in common with our cat. We
called him Spot because he was a tuxedo with a white face and black
spot on his nose. Actually, Spot left a legacy here, as he is could
well be Little Bit's pappa, she looks like a smaller version, though
her black spot is a little off center on her face. Also, he's the
reason I started putting out food. And, of course if you put out food
the strays will come looking for it. Little Bit had been eating here
the summer before she decided to move inside to have her kittens,
including Sammy. The food put out for him also led to Rocky starting
to come around. So, although Spot moved on to the west coast, he's at
least partly to blame for my three furry masters being here now.

How on earth did this cat survive a whole month without water?

One wonders if this cat was actually shipped by accident.

Conjecture in similar cases are they lick the container wall for
condensation.

The story sounds plausible to me, given that I have had several
occasions when my cat ended up trapped in the hall closet after
darting into the temporarily-opened door without my noticing her.

It's plausible, but since the people had lost two cats at the same
time, I got a little suspicious.

they would have finished up with a crate of feathers!

Oh no!  A slow boat *from* China!

Poor tiny bit!  How terrible for her!  And how tough she must be!

I hope she finds a loving home and fattens up quickly. ;)

Amazing... poor little thing must have been terrified and bewildered... and
what am I doing in here with all these BIRD cages??

Hopefully 'China' will be given a clean bill of health, fattened up and
adopted by someone soon.

This sounds a little like what happened around here a week or so ago.  They
held a plane at Manchester (NH -USA) airport for 3 hours because the night
crew heard a cat meowing.  Billy had been on board for 19 days and was
supposed to go to Germany.  Here are the story links
