The best cat game ever

O J - 20 Apr 2004 06:49 GMT Hi All,
The family cat we had as I reached adulthood was The Puddy. He and I played a great game together. He loved to chase objects that were rolled across the floor to him The way our game started was, we would go up into my room where I kept a small jar of pennies.
The Puddy would stand on one side of the room, back to the wall, crouched for action. I would sit on the other side on the floor with the jar of pennies
One at a time I would shoot the pennies with my thumb, just like shooting a marble. If it was in his 'strike zone', he would swat it with a paw and knock it flat before it could touch the wall. If one got away from me and was outside the strike zone he would just let it pass and regard me with a look that said, "You didn't expect me to swing at that junk pitch did you? Point for me, rookie!"
If I got a fair one past him, point for me. If he was able to swat it flat, point for him.
Actually, there wasn't much point to keeping score. We were both winning. Regards and Purrs, O J
JP Hobbs - 20 Apr 2004 10:52 GMT Good game O J, when I go into the bedroom at night ready for bed Wilson beats me in ready for a game, he crouches down on the bed, bottom wiggling chin tucked in, Ihave to toss toys to him, but they have to go upright over his head and over the other side so he has to jump high for them, if they dont go high , or they land beside him he's just not interested and waits for the next. We, of course, call it "baseball" He gets on top of a shelf and I wad up a piece of paper and say "batter, batter, batter!" to him, toss it at him, and he swings! Then I have to chase it and throw it to him again for another swing. I have tried having a pile of papers so I don't have to chase but he insists that it's no fun if I don't scramble after his "basehits" and refuses to play if I just lob a bunch of balls of paper at him. hehe!

He'll use both paws to hit a ball or paper. He is like Salem, though, and insist I retrieve whatever I throw at him for another try. I always figured he was try to exercise me. :-)

LOL - he's got *you* chasing after the wad of paper! :)
Sounds like good exercise, though!

I am nothing but a well trained cat slave. I don't even eat my dinner now until Squeaky comes and tells me it's time. This is about 2 hours after their dinner and she's ready for a people snack. If I prepare it before she comes and tells me, I get the "I am reporting this to the mothership!" look. And Moochie tells me it is in the intergalactic treaty that I must brush him once a day if I don't want to be abducted and have Advantage put on *my* neck! Lol!

When she gets into "stalk mode" on my bed, I throw her a ball or something. She'll bat it around and if it falls off the bed, she looks at me. So I go and chase it.
And after reading this thread, I wadded up a ball of paper and tossed it at Missy, and after a while, she attacked it. But now, she's looking at me like, "It's no fun if YOU don't throw it."

See the two at the top (Fetch #1 and Fetch #2 in the menu on the left) at http://www.zefrank.com/annie/navigation.html. I love this page!
