Marina - 10 Apr 2004 15:51 GMT So, I went to see the kittens in person today, and did bring a camera and did remember to charge the batteries, so here are even more kitten pictures. And yes, the big scary hoomin who is about to eat one of the kittens is yours truly. Go to
http://uk.f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/frankiennikki/album?.dir=/My+Photos
or

and the pics starting with kittens1 are the new ones. The kittens are very mobile by now, at the stage when they explore and playfight and chase their own tails and each other's tails and then suddenly drop down and sleep, and then they wake up and start all over again. For some reason, my fingers were very interesting and nice to smell *and* chew on (especially for one of the girls, who my niece claims is a "blonde"). The three boys were out and more active in play, while the two girls stayed in their nest. Once again, when I left, Kira supervised and made sure I didn't take any babies with me, though she does seem to be getting a bit tired of them.

I love the "kitty in a cup" sequence :)
Marina - 10 Apr 2004 17:32 GMT > Egad they are SOOOoooo cute. I love the "kitty in a cup" sequence :) He was so cute. Very purposefully, he went gallop-gallop-gallop-gallop-PLOP into the cup. The other guy tried to oust him, but he stayed put. His exit wasn't quite as graceful; he tried to step on the rim, tipped the cup over and rolled out.

By the time I was 25, my hair was all grey, and then it started turning white. Somehow, my self-image hasn't quite caught up. I will often stare at a photo, wondering who that familiar-looking white-haired woman is, until I realise it's me. I still think of myself as a brunette. :o)

John told me the only reason we got free drinks at Prego on the Texas trip is because of the way I look, and I'll be 44 in July. Like fine wine, we don't get older, we get better :)
Great pic, by the way, you schoolgirl with a kitten, you!

We need to make a list of RPCA'ers who have used their attractiveness to get free or reduced price stuff at restaurants. There's you, Yowie, Karen Chuplis... anyone else?
Now, Betty is tapping on my chest, saying, "Me too!" When have you ever been to a restaurant, Betty?!
GraceCat - 12 Apr 2004 03:16 GMT > We need to make a list of RPCA'ers who have used their attractiveness > to get free or reduced price stuff at restaurants. There's you, > Yowie, Karen Chuplis... anyone else? > > Now, Betty is tapping on my chest, saying, "Me too!" When have you > ever been to a restaurant, Betty?! Wasn't really attractiveness but we were at a winery years ago. I was maybe...twenty barely if that. I bypass the tasting bar to visit the opposite end of the gift shop. The lady asks if I'd like to try their local wines and here, three glasses of this, this and that. And there's some fruit or cheese and a place to nicely spit out your wine if you're into the formal traditional wine tasting affair. *ahem* yeah right...spit out booze..
Anyway, I casually guzzle my way through a couple samples, purchased a couple cases (it was local and non-purchasable anywhere else, we pass through there every three to five years so I stock up) and I'm done... end of story right? (And no she didn't ask to see my id. I keep everything except ssn, more recently even adding my email)
Well, except here comes this woman that she's pushing thirty if she's a day old. I'm not being hateful or cruel, but you could definitely tell this woman hadn't seen the dawn side of 21 for a long time. She pointedly announces to the lady that she'd like to sample such and such wine.
*evil wicked grin*
And was promptly asked to show proof of age. I think Jody got a bigger hoot out of it than I did. We hadn't been married a year and I was 19 when we did.

In Finland, you have to be 18 to buy beer and wine (20 for the stronger stuff). I was last asked for my id when buying two bottles of wine at age 27.

Later that year I was carded buying lottery tickets!!! A lot of the local stores have a policy of carding _everyone_ buying alcohol or tobacco, as a way of not having to have the employees guess who is above the age limit. One chain had a humorous cartoon of an elderly man, bent over his cane, saying, "You want to see my WHAT?"

You know that you're getting up there when you find yourself flattered when they card you, until you realize that it's to see if you qualify for the senior citizen discount.

There's you, >Yowie, Karen Chuplis... anyone else? Well, this doesn't count, but I stopped at McDonald's for a coke, and the clerk said. "Twenty-seven cents.". I go, "Well, that's cheap." Now, this clerk is a very young and bouncy teenager, whose voice lilted at the end of each sentence as if every statement were a question. She said, "Oh! The senior citizen discount? You know?" I said: "Err...exactly how old *is* a senior citizen?" She said, "Oh, I don't know?" I was devastated for about 5 minutes. I had just come from church, was dressed up & wearing makeup and thought I looked pretty good... at least I didn't think I looked that much older than 48. I was crushed. I had to squash the urge to buy a 7-day pill organizer and an accordian folded plastic rain hat for my purse.
