Depends upon your news-server - mine shows "total messages 17891" for
this group. (It's when they begin to show that many NEW messages that
we'll have cause to worry!) (;-D}

My server is showing 41866, I wonder how long it would take to read all of
them.

I'd hate to newly subscribe and "get all headers" with a dial-up

Not just "newly subscribe" - every once in a while, my server decides to
"refresh" one of my newsgroups and download everything again. I just
pick ip a book and read for a few minutes. (Fortunately, once it
finishes, it only shows the genuinely new messages as "unread".)
