I just wanted to post that we lost our dachshund Happy this morning. He spotted
another dog, went nuts and jerked off the leash. He ran right in front of a
car.
I am never getting another pet, ever.

Sherry, I am so sorry. How awful! It is bad enough when we lose a

unbearable. We're all thinking of you today. Big hugs!!!!

Apologies to everyone for not acknowledging all the beautiful posts, nearly
forty of them, I am just overwhelmed by the kindness of the people here.
I just couldn't bring myself to read any of the groups yesterday & day before.
It was hard enough just to gather up all of Happy's things. There is still a
big black hole around here. I even miss arguing wiith him.
The reason we named him Happy is that he was one of those dogs that "smiles."
With his mouth closed, he would draw his lips back and show all his teeth.
There's a medical name for that, I can't remember it. It starts with an "R". He
only did it when he first greeted you, or was in trouble.
I can just see the little doo-doo head smiling at the RB.

Sherry, I know how you feel, a sudden loss like that is shocking and much
harder to deal with than a goodbye that you know is coming. Happy sounds
like he was a lovely little dog, who deserved a happier life than he had.
You have the comfort of knowing that you gave him a good home when he needed
you.

Prayers for Happy's passing Sherry. I missed the first post. We lost a
dog similar to that once when I was a child, it was the first time I
ever saw my daddy cry. I don't know what hurt me the most :(.
Isn't it amazing how much affection you can pack into a name like
"doo-doo head"? Many disagree and call it crude, but it's truly one of
the most endearing terms among family members. As strange as it may
sound...

Oh, yes, all the affection in the world. I guess it does sound crude and
strange though. After the "Mom" thread, maybe I should have not said that!!

I think non-mothers and those that don't have bratty furkids miss the
idea behind the expression but sometimes there is absolutely nothing
left to call them ;)

I know very well. Some people aren't able to understand the affection
"packed" as you say, into the name "Stinky." An aunt of mine always
would ask if we had changed the cat's name yet.
It just is my and my family's particular sense of humor, and the way
this particular little animal struck us at the time. It seemed to fit
him in a thoroughly ironic way-- he is just as sweet as can be, and we
know it very well- and he knows it, too.
