I gave her some dry treats today and she sniffed them, then looked up like "Well, DUH, where's the canned stuff? Is this all you've got?" Considering she was wolfing down anything that didn't bite her first till now, that's a good indication she's turning spoiled and particular, just like the rest of the crew!

My dear late aunt had a red tabby girl named Biscuit-- a real deep red tabby female, pretty rare. She came from a breeder of what were then called Domestic Shorthairs, and had a pretty impressive pedigree. But she was a killing machine. She was the most incredible hunter I've ever seen.

I'd love to see a pic of Miss Penelope. It's funny how face-markings create an expression. Booty-girl has a black face with a white chin. It' makes her look like she is perpetually scowling. But it suits her personality. On second thought, maybe she *is* perpetually scowling.
Thanks, all, for the lovely posts. I just love her dearly. She has the most precious personality.

Sorry I had to snip the links. My news server is kind of picky sometimes and refused to send stuff. Biskit is beautiful and looks so sweet. I can't imagine how she could have ended up as a you say a throwaway. Annie

My little Roxy, a pedigreed Persian with championship bloodlines, was a castoff. Natasha, my Russian Blue female was discarded before she was properly weaned because of a slight defect in the bone structure of her tail. She's otherwise a sweet and lovable cat who deserved to be treated with the common respect due any animal. Her personality though, will always be colored by her nervous habit of kneading. I'd like to slap the breeder, but it wouldn't begin to show my contempt.

Biskit does that, too. Constantly. She also still runs back to "her room" at the slightest noise. I think the saddest thing of all iss, I opened the living room window for the first time it got warm enough the other dday, a brisk breeze was blowing in. . She was terrified of that open window and wouldn't come in the living room at all. It was the very same window that she jumped up on, looking inside in the rain over a month ago. I don't think she is ever going to want outside.

That's so sad! She must have been an inside kitty. Betty also has little phobias that have to do with past experiences, like running away from her carrier. Though TED is probably a phobia most cats have.
Steve Touchstone - 20 Mar 2004 01:59 GMT >>She was probably a designer cat. Somebody that wanted her for a status symbol >>because she wa beautiful, not because they loved & wanted a cat. > >Maybe it had something to do with her not being spayed. Either she >sprayed, or had kittens. It's a sad fact, but there are a lot of people who acquire pets on the spur of the moment and have no idea how to take care of them.
I've had feathered pets lots longer than furry ones. It's saddening, and infuriating how many people go by a pet store and get that cute puppy, kitten, or bird without the slightest idea of the care needed. Then the puppy piddles on the floor, the kitten scratches the furniture and climbs the curtains they become an outside pet, get dumped somewhere, or taken to a shelter. Don't get me started on how most birds are treated, as I sometimes wonder if even a quarter of bird owners have any idea how to keep a healthy and happy bird.
Sort of makes me wish that the pet owners were licensed (after proving they can care for the animal) instead of the pets.

Well, it's sad that she has so much fear, but it's also good - it means you'll never have to struggle with her over a desire to go out, or deprive her of joy in her life by keeping her in. If she's content to be inside, then she can be a happy *and* safe cat!

She was [quoted text clipped - 9 lines] >or deprive her of joy in her life by keeping her in. If she's content >to be inside, then she can be a happy *and* safe cat! Oh, that's right. Why did I think that was sad?
It must be a past-tense sort of sad I get when I see this very poetic contrast - Biskit was on the outside of the window looking in on a rainy day, and the other side of the window represented everything she wanted. Now, Biskit on the inside of that same window looking out sees there her greatest fear, even when it's sunny and warm outside.
When I think of how much Biskit must love her new mom and dad, is this sadness I feel? Quite the opposite, yet, the tightness in the heart is somehow similar.
Sherry - 20 Mar 2004 05:56 GMT >> > That's so sad! She must have been an inside kitty. >> [quoted text clipped - 14 lines] >sadness I feel? Quite the opposite, yet, the tightness in the heart >is somehow similar. I don't really care whether she goes out or not. The cats go in & out at will, but there's really not much trouble they can get into way out here. But it *is* kind of sad that she is afraid of the window. Like if she goes out, she goes right back out being homeless or something? I don't know. Well, the *good thing* is, it's one less cat to go round up at dusk. I've had to withhold their supper lately with the warm weather. They don't want to come in otherwise, but it's the rule!! No cats outside after the vapor light comes on.

It doesn't help that they have dry food available all the time, inside and out. And if we didn't make it available, the neighbors do so that wouldn't help.
Jake is great at slipping out when the dog goes for her last walk of the night. And then looking pitiful when he gets back in like he'd been abandoned or something.

LOL, we just have to enforce the curfew. There's too many coyotes out at night. I wish I had a dollar for every hour I've spent with a flashlight trying to round up cats. Usually they're by the door, under a bush, laughing at me.

Or some sadness for other cats who are still stuck on the outside, who haven't found a good home? It's a very bittersweet thought, happy for Biskit's current life, but sad for what she's been through in the past - or even sad for what *could* have been her fate if she hadn't found Sherry & DH.

She went into heat for the first time. The stupid Gomers who had never got her spayed then tossed her out when she started crying for relief. They threw her out to fend for herself and the poor little thing ended up sitting on our wood pile starving and pregnant. BTW, Penny still is terrified of her own shadow, but is more relaxed than she used to be.
