I'm watching the cats in the cages at PetSmart.
One cat in the top cage has a satin, leopard-spotted stuffed snake,
that is about three feet long, and has a flat, shoestring tail at the
end. He is going to town on the head of this snake, which is hanging
outof his cage.
The cat in the cage immediately below his, is watching, with great
interest, I might add, as the dangling end of the snake moves up and
down against the bars of her cage.
The girl in the cat room is cleaning cages, so one of the cats is
loose in the room while she cleans. This cat is following the motion
of the shoestring tail as it dangles slightly over her head.
All three cats finally have hold of their portion of the snake, making
its motion ever the more interesting to all three. I haven't seen
three cats have that much fun in a long time (grin).

This gives me shelter fever! When I've been to the shelter, I didn't
see any of the cats playing, except when I went ahead and played with
them. At the shelter where I got Betty, they have a little corner
"apartment" for some of the more social and active cats, complete with
window to the outside, cat tree, bed, and even a small sofa that a
human can plop down on. Typically, they had four cats in there, and I
would pick up one of the cat dancers and play with them.
