Okay, Swabbies,

We're looking to start up for our pirate cat voyage of discovery and
fishies for 2004. Our Buddy, Adam, is being sent to Germany in May by
the hoomins he works for. We gotta go rescue him.

So I propose that we meet, dockside, at Roanoke Island, USA on June 1,
2004 and set sail for Burope and save Adam from working for the hoomins.
I then propose that we sail towards the south seas, collect more crew
members there, and find out about the fleshpots of taheetee, hawaee, and
the phillipeans. I figure we can have a grand old time, kick some d*ggy
b*tt, and find treasure galore.

What say ye? Are we going adventuring this summer? Are you mateys with
us or yellow livered d*g b*tt licking, cowards?

Cap'n Pine Cone esq.

Hoomin note.

Pine Cone has been after me to work on and update his web site.  I'm
still not through, but I've added a couple of pages, changed a few
things, and I'm still not happy.  But it's at
http://home.earthlink.net/~tanada for those who want to see how the boss
(he thinks) cat is doing.

Yeah, Berf was an alky.  We don't drink, but we have friends who do, and
many of them would slide Berfert some under the table.  You've never
seen a hang over until you've seen one on a cat.  I was so glad that he
put himself on the wagon.

Thank you.  The other cats are demanding at least one page so that they
can reply.  Sigh.

Yeah, Berf is an Alky.  We don't drink, but we've had a lot of friend
who do, and most of them were quite willing to slide some to Berfert
under the table.  I was SO glad when he put himself on the wagon.

Wow! That sounds like a whole lot of fun. By that time I'll no longer be
a baby kitten - I'll be just past my 1st purrday. I'd be honored to join
you on your voyage, Captain.

Aye, younglin, you'll be big enough then.  The question is will you be
brave enough to brave the dangers of the sea...the wales, storms,
crowded litter boxes, getting wet.  If you can handle those, you'll be
more than welcome to join the crew.

Arr we espects to be in yer area in June.  Maybe you can set us up for a
feast one night.  I'm sure some good Swedish cooking will go down well
after a couple of weeks or so of eatin at sea.

Welcome aboard swabbies.  We can use some good strong young blood around
here.  Just don't get any thoughts in yer heads about dumpin over the
bait buckets.  The hoomins may not tolerate it this year.

Pssst, Fez and Rufous - Hobbes told me all about the fish bate buckets
being turned over and it sounds like great fun! Small fishes flopping
all over the deck and all the kittens chasing them around everywhere.
It might be something that we'll have to try one evening when no one is
watching.  Sshhhh, don't tell anyone.

Robin, the Lovebug, applying for the trip. I am young and strong and
full of adventure. And I especially want to see some of those
fleshpots! And maybe we can even swing by Russia? Meowmy tells me i am
a Russian blue, so I thought I would like to see some of my distant
relatives. And drink some vodka while learning to do the Cossack
Dance.

Note from Robin's Meowmy: I will let Robin go on the trip but I want
to warn you about his way of sneaking out the door. Don't let him go
off ship by himself or the little sh*t will get himself in trouble and
won't make it back to the ship. Sometimes he is too curious for his

Not to worry, Robin's Meowmy.  I'll ask one of my responsible lads or
lasses to chaperone the lad.  If we have to we'll lock him up with the
fat wench in the hold when we make landfall.  We have to watch out for
her, and keep her out of trouble too.

Well, if he does have to be locked up with the fat wench, he would
love to be held and petted. His problem is, he loves everyone and has

Mike's been feeling so rotten and worrying his mom so much lately
she's not about to let him out of her sight, but Ozzy and Tiger might
like to come along.  They are both very hard-working kitties who
deserve a break from the office, and as lawcats they can help get
everyone out of trouble, though *surely* that won't be necessary.  ;-)

I dunno about that.  Last year they barely made it out of England and

Especially at sea. Will you pick us up frpm our island as you did last year?
Germany is quite near to us, so we could ghost oer there, but if you come to

Arr, visiting the island be high on my list.  Nikki taught us much about

Greetings

As a seaside cat, I practically have brine in my veins, so would be glad
to join you on your adventures yet again.  May I suggest that you do as
last year; up the English Channul, and up along the North Kent Coast
where I'll meet you at Whitstable Harber again?  'Tis a fine place for
stocking up on the essentials of life, like shrimpies.  Then up the East
coast to Waffles, if she's game for a spot of hunting, which I'm sure
she will be.

Carrie, the fat one, wants to come again this year too.  She's not so
bad really, and she's not so fat any more.  Could you find space for
her?

I'm trying to get the fat one to lose some weight.  If that works, we'll

Mischief: I'd be honored to join yer crew, capt'n.  I've been cooped
up in this apartment waaaaaaaaay too long and I'm dying to get some
fresh air.  There's just one catch.  My stupid hoomin says she'll only
let me go on the voyage if Imp comes along with me.  It's sooooooooo
STUPID!!  Imp runs away from his shadow!  There's no WAY he would make
it as a pirate cat.

Hmph!  It's the only way I can go on this voyage, unfortunately.  Mama
Kristi says I have to take care of Imp so he doesn't get scared.
Grrrrrrr!!  Knowing him, he'll probably hide below deck for the entire
voyage.  He thinks everything is a trick, and I know I'm going to have
to beat him silly just to get him on the blasted ship!  Harumph!  But
it's only because I'm dying for some pirate adventure, to be able to
sail the seven seas, with all the fish I can eat, that I'm willing to
put up with him!  And Imp, well, I'm sure Imp will be great at
swabbing decks or some other meaningless task.

So I am ready for duty, Capt'n Pine Cone!  (whispers) Imp!  You're
supposed to say you're ready!

Imp:  Uh, are you sure about this?  This could be just a trick, cause
pirates are so scary.  Did you see the movie where the pirates turned
in to walking skeletons...

Mischief: For the millionth time, will you RELAX???!!  Now say that
you're ready, before I pull out your whiskers and hang them from the
mainsail!

Imp:  Okay, okay, I'm ready..........I think.....

Mischief:  That's better.  Two more mischievous cats reporting for
duty!!!

Dear Capt Pine Cone,

I would like to join this years pirate cat voyage.  Meowmy wouldn't let
me go last year because I had just come to live with her and Paw and
they were afraid I wouldn't come back. How silly hoomins are. Why
wouldn't I return to a soft bed, plenty of food and warm shelter after
spending a cold, wet winter outside.  Anyhow, I managed to live on my
own for awhile and am good at hunting my own food. I'll be happy to help
catch wales and purposes.  I know that Hobbes usually joins the crew and
I can keep an eye on him and make sure that he behaves himself. I bite
him on the ear when he least suspects it and hiss at him when he's doing
no wrong. He isn't sure what to think of me now and watches me warily.
Paw tells him that I'm just a typical female and that he'll have to get
used to it, but I know exactly what I'm doing. I look forward to hearing
from you and hope that I get to join your crew this year.

With a parrot in my jaws....ummm on my shoulder, I mean.

Yo Capt Pine Cone,

Yer fellow pirate Hobbes here requesting permission for myself and
Selena to join the crew of the Good Ship Mouser again this year.  We've
had such a great time the past few years we wouldn't dare miss the
adventure this year.  Of course Selena was waiting to see if Amber was
going to join up this year so I finally told her that he was probably
waiting to see if she was signing on. So she said to sign her up as
well. So me matey, please consider Selena and for the 2004 pirate adventure.

Dear Capt. Pine Cone,

I would like to go wif you on the ship.  I'm good at hunting, but I'm an
indoor kitty and mostly hunt fuzzy mousies and spiders and bugs (but not
stinky bugs).  My meowmy sez I should ask if we gotta share the hoomins
on board.  She sez I don't share well wif others.  I don't know what she
means by that, but she sez it's not nice to not share.  I think I can
share the hoomins, but should I bring my meowmy wif me?  Then I could
leave the other hoomins to the other kitties.  She's good at filling
food dishes and playing throw-the-toy and scooping the litter (although
that could be a little more often for my tastes).  She doesn't
understand cat-speak very well, but she gets the gist of the message
eventually.  She likes other kitties, but I'd prefer to keep her lap to
myself.  Maybe she could help with brushing other kitties?  Then maybe
she would stop trying to brush me.

Arrrr, Brenna, welcome aboard.  You can bring your hoomin with you, so

Dear Cap'n PC:

Brenna did not ask me about this before posting.  As I get somewhat
seasick and just generally have lousy balance, I think that I should
stay home.  Thank you for being open-minded about it, though.  It is
fine with me if she accompanies you, but feel free to send her home if
she causes problems by getting jealous about attentions that other
kitties receive.  I'll send an extra bag of hairball formula food with
her.  Oh, and the hoomins should be warned that she will try to mug them
for chocolate, garlic, and spicy foods.  If she gets too excited or
aggressive on 'nip, restrict her to chamomile and she'll have fun but be
more mellow about it.  I think that's about it.

Aye Ms Denise, the fat wench says that she understands about seasickness
as she's a bit prone to it herself.  I'm giving a copy of this to the
fat wench and reminding her that she's in charge of special stores.  She
already plans on the hairball formula food, but hadn't thought about
chamomile tea.

Hey, mateys! Are ye CATS or are ye PUPPY D*GS?? Thjis is starting to sound
like Meowmies sending their kittens to DAYCARE!! Chamomile instead of nip,
indeed. This is a PIRATE voyage, not a kiddie cruise! MY hoomin can at least
tie seaman's knots, so she could be some use on board.

Cap'n Pine Cone

Hope it's not too late to add a couple more to the crew. I wanted to
come last year, but Momma Little Bit said I couldn't go alone since
I'm and inside cat and she was afraid I'd get lost or something. She
refusing to go, since she's afraid of getting wet. This year, she says
I can go, as long as Rocky agreed to go along. I asked Rocky, and at
first he said no. But he agreed when I reminded him that if he went
we'd be on the other side of the world when it's time for his annual
trip to TED. He says he'll go as long as there's plenty of food and a
hoomin or two that will rub his back.

I've never been on a pirate cruise, but am quick and agile, love to
climb, so think I'll get the hang of climbing in the rigging. I'm
hoping to pick Nikki's brain for hunting and fishing techniques, since
all I've ever been able to catch are grasshoppers and am really
looking forward to voles.

I do have a couple worries, though. Thunder really scares me, so hope
there'll be no storms. I'm hoping that your hoomins have better
control over the weather than ours does. If not, I'll probably need
someplace safe to hide from the big boomers. The other thing is food.
Our hoomin recently decided to start feeding us heathly food, but I'm
hoping we can bring along some of the good stuff. My personal favorite
is Friskies tuna and cheese, but even before our hoomin went on this
healthy craze we only got that on special occasions. Since we'll be on
the high seas, perhaps we could catch catch some tuna, feed it some
cheese, and try it fresh?

As for Rocky, he's pretty good at any fighting, he's named after that
movie boxer, Rocky Balboa. He grew up wild, and back before he moved
in with us and lost his b*lls he whopped all the other cats in the
neighborhood. He's retired, though, and told me to ask if he could
have a job helping teach the youngsters how to fight instead of
fighting himself.

Anyhow, if there's room for two more, here's a couple potential
'cruits.

Welcome aboard Sammy and Rocky.  We can surely use someone to help teach
attack and defense to the kits and help with guarding the ship from
d*gs.  I'm sure that Waffles and Nikki will be quite pleased to teach a
promising younger cat the ropes of big game hunting.

Dear Captain Pine Cone Sir,

May I come on board with the rest of your kitty friends? Mommy had to
send my cat back home because she didn't like the great outdoors. She
was a city girl at heart and I miss her. I'll be out of school by then,
Mrs. Baker said that I'm doing so good I'll get to go to first grade.
I'm a good petter and I'll make sure everybody eats lots of treats. I
need someone to watch Heathcliff and Felix cartoons with me after school
is over. Shhhhhhh, don't tell Mommy but I need a break from my sissie.
She touches too many of my things!!! And I want all the kitties for
myself this summer. Mommy says I need to share but Eve has her own toys.
And the d-g is getting awful grumpy in her old age. Mommy says it's
because her leg hurts where the doctor had to cut it open and fix it but
I think it's just because she gets all the treats from Mommy and we eat
ours without sharing. Mommy says she's even stingier than I am. But I'm
not, I just don't like sharing with a fleabag that can't purr.

Arr, Miss Abi.  I understand you wanting to be with us superior beings,
you can't help but be interested in us.  We won't be able to watch TV on
board the ship and the fat wench told me that she was sure that your
meowmie wouldn't be too thrilled for you to be mixed in with such a
scurvy cutthroat crew such as we are.  If your meowmie says that you can
join us, we'll add you to the crew.

your feline friend,

Mommy said I needed to stay home and help her move my toys into my new
bedroom. She says we should be moving the week after school is out so I
can't go. I cried a little bit but then she reminded me that we'll go
pick out just the right color of pink for my walls. I can't wait and I
know Mommy can't do it without my help so I'd better stay.  And who will
teach Evie to be bad if I'm not around. So I guess I need to stay here.
Next year though I'll be a big girl and if Mommy won't let me go, well!
I'll just run away. You can send her a note and say it's just like being
in a circus. Big kids do that all the time don't   they? Run away to the
circus...

Daddy says don't forget the fishing poles and a few good nets to catch
lots of shrimpies.

Abi

Dear Miss Abi,

Picking out a color for your room is very important, or so the lady cats
tell me.  Me, I just turn everything around me "Pine Cone" color, even
though the hoomins complain about the fur levels.

I wouldn't say that running away to join a pirate ship is the same as
running away to join the circus.  We be tougher and more cut throat than
any old circus.  However, big kids are no fun to have on a cruise.  They
fuss about the wind in their hair, fish scales, sun burns, litter box
duty, and climbing the rigging.  Little kids are more fun.  They love to
play chase, string, red-spot monster, and toss the mouse.  They are more
willing to brush our fur, pet us, and feed us when we ask and not when
the grown-ups say to.  So please don't grow big too fast.

Maybe you can get one of the paws or granpaws to take you fishing, that
way you can have fun and help feed the family.

Cap'n Pine Cone hoping Abi can join the cruise next year.

Welcome to the crew, Rocket and Sehkar.  I'm sure that Rocket will have
plenty of crow's nest time as will all who are interested.  We'll need
all the crew members who are adept with string as we can get.  There are
a lot of ropes on a ship.

more crew members there, and find out about the fleshpots of taheetee,
hawaee, and the phillipeans. I figure we can have a grand old time, kick
some d*ggy b*tt, and find treasure galore.

Wow! That sounds like a whole lot of fun. By that time I'll no longer be
a baby kitten - I'll be just past my 1st purrday. I'd be honored to join
you on your voyage, Captain.

You are an eager kitten, aren't ye lad.  Never mind.  We can use an
energetic cabin kit, though you be a mite too old for the job.  Welcome
aboard (again) and don't forget to clean your paws.

Missy Tabitha, you've already been accepted on the "Mouser."  We can
always use a young lady cat to help climb the riggin.

Bruiser here.
I want to come again.  I'm real big now so I can really contribute to all
the fun this time and I've been practicing wrestling a lot.  You're going
to have a lot of food again aren't you?  Because food is real important!
Maya will probably want to come too.  She's really too old if you ask me,
she's like 4 now.  But you know how much she likes to fight and I would
miss her even if she is really old.  I don't know about the buckling
stuff but with a tail like mine I can really shwish and swash.

Arr, I hope you show up at the docks with Maya.  She be a grand mouser
and a tough set of paws in a fight.  We not only bring food, but the
hoomins are good about catching fish regularly.  Fresh tuna is better
than anything that comes in a can.

Arrrrrrrrrr! (Practicing my growly pirate-speak)...the hoomin spoilsports
are not around now and I snuck onto this 'puter (not a piece-a cake with
only one working eye, mateys) and am trying to send this meowsage to Cap'n.
PineCone, Esq. Can't hit these *&$** keys with each paw, a paw is bigger
than a catslave toe, but here goes:
I, Blind Terrorist Rowdy, am ruff, tuff, scurvy & all that; even have a
blind eye...but no black patch (can't stand head ornaments, man). I be mean,
lean (uh, cancel "lean") how 'bout 19# of feisty furbearing feline fighting
fellow? Overprotective hoomins keep me from my rightful outside wanderings
here - they seem to think the local loose canine curs would make a meal of
me. But I'm not handicapped! What I lack in eyesight I make up for in big
bites, my sharp fangs will shiver any timbers you got out there. Just point
me at 'em, dude. (I *must* stop copying the hoomin speech of that onetime
surf-nut hoomin slave here. You would think it would go away after leaving
California, humph).
Puhleeze, Cap'n, is there a place for me in yer crew this summer? These old
lady cats here are *no* fun at all; all they wanna do is snooze and pig out.
Well, pigging out is good, I take that back. Are "fleshpots" some kinda huge
food bowl? Yum.

Addendum plea from hoomins @ BT Rowdy's habitat: Cap'n. Pine Cone, will you
*please* let him sail with your pirate expedition this June?! It's still
cool but spring down here and he's skirmishing non-stop with the aging
ladies he lives with, Sylvie and Maluce, as he's feeling his oats (no, he
has no b**ls) and wants to play; they growl horribly and let him have it
with all front claws as they just think he's got a lotta nerve bothering
their snooze time. A challenging voyage such as yours would give him an
outlet for this energy of a youngish tomcat. I will NOT let him go outside,
front clawless and half blind, as I am rarely in the mood to skirmish myself
with the neighbors' rotties and hounds, all of which know me but
still......Rowdy could do *something* on your vessel.

Arr, we can always use another crew member.  Rowdy can help with our
public relations team,  They say they need more poster cats, and someone
to help deliver messages and ultimatums.  Rowdy would be good at ultimatums.

Rowdy thanks you from the bottom of his dastardly feline heart, and his
adoring hoomin will explain "ultimatums" to him. As for the other duties, he
loves the spotlight and pic-taking.
His hoomin also thanks you. Yo ho ho and a bottla 'nip!
