I sincerely think they do. When Persia is in my lap and looks at me with
those big, green eyes... tilts her head back and blinks slowly... and I
swear, she's smiling. Of course she's probably just laughing at my hair LOL

Oh, absolutely! Yoda has thhis "look"" when he''s very displeased, ears are
sliightly back and his brow is actually furrowed. Cats really do have facial
expressions, they're just a little more subtle than dogs..

Someone told me that slow blinks like that are cat kisses. Sometimes I
will return the blink and the purrs increase.

I've known my cats to smile, laugh, sneer, frown, glare, chuckle, and
show sadness. I really believe that cats have all the same emotions we
do, including embarrassment. They're just better at hiding it than we are.

I don't know; mine always feign disgust to conceal embarrassment, and
it's always so obvious. :)
All my cats have very expressive faces and body language. When I fuss
Firstborn, he gives me a gorgeous big grin! Blackie can look positively
fiendish when he's chasing a shoelace... and Calli has expressions that
I can only describe as "come hither". Even though she's neuter. :)

Indeed they do -- doggies too. This most recent Best Friends
Magazine has a picture of a dog who is smiling. There is no
mistaking that look!

Don't know about the smile part, but they certainly can express their
emotions with their eyes, ears, whiskers, etc ;-)

I'm sure Felix does. I've seen his little mouth curl up at the corners
when he's very content.

Sure they do! The expression you describe is their way to express a feeling
of happiness and peacefullness. If you return the same expression, you will
get a good response. Cats use this to communicate to other cats that they
are not aggressive or hostile.
My cats are Devon Rex cats, and they have got another expression in addition
to the cat smile: The wag their tails! Not from side to side, that means a
couple of other things, but up and down! I think this is a speciality for
the Rex breeds. If I take Teti for a "walk", grabbing his rear legs and
leads him around on the floor, he will always wag his tail and give me the
"eye smile" when I put him down.

Wheelbarrow style. We used to do this when we were kids.

It's a possibility that I'm still a kid... ;-) Anyway, Teti loves it.

I think they do. Vino gets this satisfied, smug smile when I pet him while
he's meatloafing. He also grins down at me from the tops of cabinets when
I've been looking all over for him. It is undeniable that he's laughing at
me ;-)

Oh yes indeed! Shmogg smiles when he's being petted and/or inhaling fod, but
I swear he laughs his head off when he's just pulled off a b*st*rd c*t
trick. Ok, its not *audible* laughter, but there's something about his
expression that makes me know that if he was human, he'd have tears in his
eyes and be in dire danger of losing bladder control.
He is also quite capable of showing dissatifaction, anger, sorrow,
frustration, happiness etc etc.
Fluff on the other hand seems only seems to have a few emotions when she's
awake. She's either ecstatically happy, utterly heart broken, or terribly
terribly sorry.

When Maya first moved in I would go looking for her and find she was
walking 3 feet behind me like she was Bugs Bunny and I was Elmer Fudd,
did everything but ask me what I was looking for. She also would be
sitting in my chair when I got back from looking for her looking like she
had been sitting there for hours. I could tell she thought it was
enormously funny. I'm sure she was dying inside.

Sounds like one of Sammy's favorite games when she was younger. She'd
go streaking out the door at night, despite the fact that she knows
she's only allowed out when supervised and properly dressed in her
collar. She'd run for a few yards, stop until I had almost reached
her, then tear back in the other direction. After a few passes she'd
hide in the bushes - it is VERY difficult to spot a tuxedo kitty
hiding in a bush in the dark. After several minutes of this running
and hiding, she'd sneak back inside and watch me hunt her through the
window.
It was obvious from her expression and body language that she thought
this was hilarious, and a great game. It's been quite awhile since she
did this though, since it's not nearly as much fun now that the
stoopid hoomin learned to check the windows and he wandered back and
forth.

awww, the look of total bliss. Rocky gets that look when you rub his
back. I'm sadly lacking in pix of my crew, but in the two I do have of
Rocky this is the look on his face. When I posted them someone asked
if Rocky was blind - but no, he was just purring away and looking for
more rubbing.
