Okay, that trip is maybe much sooner than I thought...

I have no one to pet-sit for Persia, but might be able to get my brother to
watch her as well as Peaches (the lovebird).  This is assuming I can teach
him to keep the garage door closed after he pulls the car in while he brings
in his groceries...

Persia is liable to hide under one of his beds, but I think would warm up to
him, even though he claims I don't actually have a cat, just a bowl of cat
food ROFL!

It would be better, I think, than boarding her at the vet where she'd be
side by side in a cage next to other cats.  And he works frequently from
home, so he'd be there to bond with her.

So, the 'romance' is heating up.  The trip to meet the man I haven't seen in
23 years, originally discussed for May, *might* happen as soon as two or
three weeks from now.  I've got new luggage, Persia photo tag attached.
Dammit, where do you attach hangers in these newfangled bags?  Must have
hangers!  Without them everything will be a wrinkled mess. (sigh)

Have you thought of a professional pet-sitter?  I don't know where you
live, but I found "Paws & Claws" through my local Yellow Pages, and have
used them satisfactorily several times.  They're no more expensive than
boarding your cat at the vet (perhaps less so, since they charge per
visit, not per animal), they're bonded so you don't have to worry about
trusting them with a key, and they'll not only feed and exercise your
pet (which includes walking dogs), but water your plants and take in
your mail.  Of course, they come to meet you and your pet(s) before your
departure.  The young man who came last time had such charisma for
felines that even my stand-offish Patches was right there with him when
I opened the door to let him in.  (Usually, when I lived where I could
have a pet-flap, Patches would be nowhere to be seen when strangers
arrived - this time he was rubbing against ankles, instead!)

But my brother would be FREE ;)  And he's always wanted a cat, but the silly
man thinks cats and birds cannot co-exist.  How silly is that?  I've had a
cat for 3 years and I'm listening to my lovebird chirp while Persia sits in
my lap, purring :)

I'm going to have to get him a kitten for his 47th birthday... well, I'll
take him kitten-shopping anyway.  I wouldn't presume to give him a cat he
hadn't picked out.

Good!  One of the biggest mistakes a person can make is to pick out a pet
that they think would be "wonderful" and present it to a person who really
might not want it.  My cousin decided that my aunt ant uncle would love to
have a puppy just like the dog on the Frasier TV show.  Well, the puppy was
as cute as could be, but my aunt and uncle are elderly and simply could not
keep up with the demands of an *extremely* active puppy.  It's always
important for the person who will care for a pet to make the adoption
decision.

Also:  I assume from part of your message that your brother has a bird.  If
so, be sure to discuss *in considerable detail* the arrangements that should
be made if a cat and a bird are to be kept in the same household.

Oooooh, romance!  I love romance!  I hope all goes well with the reunion and
with Persia too.
