After a couple of years working jobs I hate and a couple of weeks not
working at all, I finally have a shot at a job I could really enjoy. I'm
scheduled to begin new-driver orientation with a trucking company here
in southern CA on Sunday morning. If all goes well, by late Wednesday
I'll be cleared to start working as a driver (the only job I've really
enjoyed in recent years).
I'm pretty well set - got the laptop, will be turning on wireless
Internet access tomorrow, got all my needed equipment and supplies, and
the company I'll be driving for has a pet policy (I'm really looking
forward to giving each of the cats a try at riding along, in case one of
them enjoys it).
A couple more days of purrs would be nice, as I have a few more little
hoops to jump through (like taking another road test, driving and
backing a semi-truck with a 53' trailer after not driving one for two
years!). But things are definitely looking up!

And if it does, you HAVE to tell us more about this pet policy!

We shall certainly purr and pray for your good luck in the job you
will enjoy However, I am not sure of having a cat as a drivealong
companion. Wouldn't they either sleep all the time or be scared to
bits? A d-g seems more likely -- we love them too.

It will all depend on the cats. I'll try each of them with a few miles
short trip around town and see if the they freak out or settle down.
When I was on the road before I met a handful of drivers who had
companion kitties.

Purrs for good luck, Dan! I saw an episode of Animal Planet, where a trucker
had a companion cat. The cat got sick, and had to have a kidney transplant, the
donor was a shelter cat. Both cats recovered, and he adopted the donor cat, now
they're both swampers!
It was a cool episode. I hope you catch it someday.

Great news, Dan :-) Purrs continuing for it all to work out. That would be
great if one of your cats liked riding along!

Here's purring that things go seemlessly, and that at least one furry enjoys
the ride!

Job purrs on the way Dan. Hopefully you'll get the job and one of the cats

Job purrs on their way. Some cats really enjoy riding in
vehicles, so let's hope at least one of yours takes to it.

Great news, Dan. Hope it works out for you. I wouldn't worry too much
about the road test. Once you've figured out the secret, it never goes away
entirely. Couple of test shots at backing and you should be good to go.

Purrs and work thoughts and wishes for you to get this job. Will you be
traveling all over the US, or locally?

For the first couple of months I'll be travelling all over the US. But
with a little luck in a couple of months I'll be able to find a
dedicated route in and route California.

Woo Hoo, let us know where you'll be roosting or at least landing for a
night and maybe we can make some RPCA hook ups.
Pam S. looking forward to her time on the road some day.

I was just thinking the same thing. Just think, if all the Mahoney
cats enjoy the road, they could take turns visiting all the US RPCA
kitties ;-)
