TJ and The Dust - 02 Mar 2004 22:54 GMT
I hope this link works for yous to see this way to cute kitten.  My office
assistant is bringing this sweet girl home tomorrow and she can't think of a
name.  This kitten is way to cute, I looked at the picture all day and I
couldn't come up with anything!!!  I told her I have some pals who could help us
out.  She is currently named Jan and her siblings are Cindy and Marshall (which
was Marsha until they found the danglies)  She says this kitty is definitely not
a Jan.

No, she's not a Jan. She requires a *substantial* name. A name of substance.

Ophelia (so that when she's naughty it can be "Oh! Feelia! bad girl!" ;-)
Purrrrrrsephone
Phelishia

I could go on (I know, I know, I frequently do...)

Cheers, helen s

Thanks for all the great names everyone.  I jotted them down and a list and gave
them to new slave!  I will let you know what name the pretty kitty ends up with!

Hmm, "Meriadoc", or, in general language "Merry" (after the hobbit, of
course)

No no no... Meriadoc is a male name.  Also reminds me of 'The Shining' as it
was quoted by one of the ghosts at a party in *that* room.  "Meriadoc, my
friend..."

Ahh, haven't watched "The Shining", and had no idea about it being a
strictly male name (I mean, what sortof gender does a name like
"Shmoggleberry" or "Fluffy" have?). I still like "Merry" as a kitty name, so
maybe "Merryweather" instead of "Meriadoc"

Don't be silly. No cat can be named before at least a year. That is,
the name two-legs use; the *real* name is none of their business and
they'll never know it. In about a year, the cat will have made it
clear what the proper name is. All my furbosses have done it that way
(Chaos & Killer currently) and it works purrfectly.

She needs to wait at least several days for the kitten to tell what her name
is.  Its amazing how often that happens.

And keep in mind that kittens tend to live up to whatever you call them.
For example, Bev's Bonnie and Clyde.

Denise - who wonders what Brenna is trying to live up to, since her name
means "girl with black hair"

This is true. Sugar is a sweetheart, Pearl is a cranky but devilish older
lady and Grant is a stud.

Apache started out to be called "Patches" - but it only
took a few days of her ambushing ankles all over the
house to earn the name "Apache".

I just looked at the colors, and I found that Palette could be a good name
for this colorful cat...

Oh, that's a great name! They could call her "Lettie" as a nickname.
(Nicknames are an important part of choosing the cat's name, I've
discovered, since I almost never call a cat by their real name in day
to day life.)

Unfortunately, I'm totally imagination-impaired when it comes to thinking
up names for animals, so I don't have any suggestions. Sorry!

Your cat's name is Licky Boy for real? That's the cutest name!!

His formal name is "Licorice" (because he's a mostly-black cat). So
"Licky" or "Licky Boy" are his nicknames. He also likes to lick my nose
when he's feeling really affectionate, so it has a double meaning.

What a beautiful girl! Can't really help with names, though. My
neighbor named Sammy and Little Bit (well, she named Sammy Sambo
because she had more black, which I vetoed and shortened to Sam). And
Rocky got his name when he went to be neutered. The vet tech didn't
want to write "Mostly White Tom Cat". I told her I usually just called
him Whitey, but she said he looked like a fighter and suggested Rocky
Balboa.

She's similar to my Maryweather
(<http://www.maem.umr.edu/tdavis/cats/dandy.mary.bathroom.1.jpg>).

I have started naming nameless cats that come my way after animal
characters in comic strips.  She was named after a dog character
because I didn't know of enough cat characters - now I do.  There is a
list of web comics with cat characters at
<http://www.maem.umr.edu/tdavis/cats/cat_comics.html> and I put a
partial list of 107 names at the bottom of the page.

Yours might be another Maryweather, or a Pawdette or Punkin.  Solange
is too pretentious for anything but a pure-bred Siamese.  Jan
definitely doesn't cut it.  Lang-Lang, maybe?

Dave Sir, I am blushing.

That I would have the honour of sharing a name with one of the Superior
Species, I am not worthy of such compliments.

And nor is the poor kitty deserving of a mere slave's name.

I'd have to change mine immediatley.

Two names came to mind. My first thought was Kayla. The kitten also
reminds me of a cat I used to have named Heidi. Either name would be
great for such a sweet looking girl.
