Screened patio

I had my patio screened on Monday.  I did not screen the bottom so the
cats could still come and go.  The screen is not for bugs but a
fiberglass screen that is more for blocking sunlight. OK that is all
stuff I said before.  The cats seem to love it.  They can sit behind the
screen and see but not be seen, safe and secure.  A couple of times they
have pawed at each other with the screen between them.  Its funny to
watch.  The trouble is other cats seem to like it as well.  Last night a
tom even bigger than bruiser who has been thrashing Matthew on a regular
basis crawled halfway under the wall when Maya let him know his presence
was not welcome.  He had no idea she was perched on a shelf watching her
domain and left in a hurry.  The last two mornings there has been a black
and white cat curled up in the papasan chair on the patio.  Both cats are
neighborhood cats who live in the houses across the condo boundary wall.
In fact he is the cat who chased Matthew the other night.  I don't blame
the guy.  Here is this nice safe place with a warm comfortable chair to
catch a nap while it is cold outside.  The problem is Maya.  Yesterday
she wasn't there when I opened the patio door and ran him off but she
spent a good part of the day repeatedly sniffing the pad on the chair.
This morning she was there and got really angry about it.  I may have to
block the rest of the bottom off at night when I go in.  Bruiser of
course didn't care.  He has to be about the most even tempered cat I have
ever seen.  He never seems to get mad about anything.  His motto must be
can't we all just get along, well that and I'm hungry.

Aw, that's like my Rocky. He's the big guy in our neighborhood, and
pretty much lords it over the other cats. Now that he's been neutered
he never gets in fights, but when he wants a particular spot, or it's
time for him to eat, he pretty much does and ignores the glares from
any of the neighborhood cats. The only cat that doesn't follow orders
is Sammy. She'll let him have the food bowl, but if she wants a
napping spot she just lies on top of him until he gets tired of her
hazzling him and he'll give up the spot.

*You* have opened "Club Biltz" to the neighborhood feline club-hoppers, and
now must provide a doorman/bouncer to admit the "in" groups behind the red
velvet ropes, and intimidate/bar the "out" wannabes to remain outside. Not
to mention admission to the "V.I.P. Room".... Where is your manager/host? Is
it you, or Maya? If so, you need to brush up on club protocol. A trip to
South Beach in my area would be most enlightening as to above topics; clubs
such as yours abound there; on the other coast, Johnny Depp's Viper Room
equates the desirable club atmosphere you have unwittingly constructed
(minus the deafening sound system, dopers/celebrities, and tobacco smoke).
However, your patrons just might be into "Hey Yah.....shake it like a
Polaroid picture"! on snowy nights, as they dust off their coats upon entry
to the coat check counter.....

I think it would be more like that place in "Roadhouse" You would have to
sweep the blood and eyeballs out every night. I'll see what happens and
how Maya adjusts to it.  Winter is over here but we have been below
normal for weeks.  As soon as it warms up everyone will be hanging out on
the walls all night.  I blocked half the bottom with that foot tall
sidewalk fencing stuff the day it was screened where I sit so I could
tell who was coming and going.  So I could do it easily enough.

Roadhouse! That rural c/w place in "Blues Bros." comes to mind, with fencing
in front of stage......ROFL. So you are the doorman, then. Keep us posted as
to what lucky ones are "coming and going" in there, LOL.

This morning the black and white was out there, Maya was at the door and
just to really complicate the situation Matthew showed up to block the
exit.  The black and white was getting more and more agitated, as I
finally managed to get Maya away from the door to chase Matthew back out
the exit and the black and white took off with a really loud scream.  I
think I'll block it tonight.  I'm closing this club down.

So did you block the club entrance like you planned? What a shame: I had
already thought up a name for your club: Biltz' Ballroom Blitz, which after
what you said re the blood and eyeballs, sounded good to me.....(and the man
at the back said "everyone attack!" and it turned into a ballroom blitz,
etc.,etc.).Have you seen the Mitsubishi commercial? I hope they're paying
royalties to Sweet. Or do song rights run out, like patents on brand-name
drugs?

Yes, I did block it off.  I had to revise the security though.  In the
morning I let Bruiser out on the patio while I go in the kitchen and the
tub is filling up.  He blew right through two layers of the plastic.
Today I went and bought some of that wire shelving at home depot.  I was
planning on buying some wood to make a frame for it but the shelves were
perfect for what I wanted and the price was right.  Always pays to browse
around there before making a purchase.  You often find something better
than what you planned on getting.

I wasn't going to ask this, but couldn't (as usual) resist: are the wannabes
now going to fight through the wire shelving (if it looks like that in my
closets) with the favored elites inside?

Probably.
