BANG! SMACK!

I'm sitting here peacefully reading posts when all of a sudden, BANG! SMACK!
That neighbor's cat is roaming around again.  Persia was looking out the
window of my (home) office and here comes that friggin cat.  Persia charged
at the window then smacked at it with her paw.  (Scared the crap out of me,
I might add.)  Of course her tail bristled completely up.  Had to go out and
chase that stupid cat away again.  Now it's not content to visit the back
yard by the patio; it has to come around front to annoy Persia too.  (sigh)

I really wish there was something I could do.  I am sorely tempted to
extreme measures, as I've mentioned in the past; aka trap the cat and take
it to a no-kill shelter.   Approaching the woman has already been tried.
You may recall, she claims the cat just "gets out" but she has three cats
and they can't all just "get out" every day.  I see them all roaming around.
This is the only one that comes onto my property to antagonize Persia,
though.

For those not familiar, my abode is situated on the corner of a rather busy
residential street.  People come around that corner ninety-to-nothing; one
day I'll see that cat dead by the side of the road.  And the woman doesn't
seem to think it's an issue.  (sigh)

that's tough. Why are people like that?
Purrs for you and Persia and for that little neighbourhood pest - I wish he
would have the sense to go off and find himself a better and safer home!

That is probably just what he is trying to do -- but they keep chasing
him off.

Persia *hates* this other cat.  This is a single-cat household.  The Animal
Control people back me up - to trap the cat and take it to one of their
no-kill shelters.  There, it can be adopted by someone who will actually
take care of it and not just let it run around across a busy street.  But I
can't quite bring myself to do that, yet.

I understand being reluctant to do tha - I'd have a hard time doing that
myself. But in the long run it would be a lot better for that cat, as
well as for Persia.

I'm sorry I can't remember Persia's details, but my job-hunting lately
has be more absent-minded than usual. Does Persia go outside?
Specifically, does she go in the front yard where this other cat is
showing up? If not, then something like a cat repellant spray or one of
those ultrasonic cat repellers might help keep it away from Persia's
territory.

Persia is a foundling and strictly an indoor cat.  However, when the weather
is nice (Spring is coming!) she sits outside in a "kitty walk" mesh
enclosure with me on the patio.  I don't want to put down sprays or
repellants as I do encourage squirrels and birds to come visit.  I'm sure
this is what attracts this cat, however there is nothing to attract it to
the front of my home which is where it was this morning.

Is there one spot where the cat often comes (like under the window)?  If
so, how about putting a sprinkler in that spot.  The next time you see
the cat on or near that spot, instead of chasing it away, turn on the
sprinkler.  After a few soakings, it might decide to avoid your yard, at
least.

The cat just decided to switch to the front window from it's usual haunts in
the back by the patio.  Sneaky lil' devil.  Oh well, when it warms up in a
few weeks I'll have sprinklers out anyway :)  Thanks for the suggestion!

What has the dialogue been with the owner of the cat?

I asked her to keep her cat out of my yard.  Her reaction was, "Hey, she
gets out, I have three kids and three cats.  I can't keep an eye on all of
them."  (Yeah, well then don't have *all* of them, is my reaction!)  But,
you see, the cat doesn't just "get out".  I see all three of her cats out
every day.  I know she just opens the door and lets them out, or possibly
has a cat-flap.  But it is only this one I have a problem with, coming over
and antagonizing Persia.  The others seem to stay put in her yard across the
street and down a-ways.

Hmmm... tough call.  Are any of the kids old enough to "take charge" of the
cats?  Could you speak to this woman again and tell her that if she doesn't
keep her cat away from your home, you or another neighbor are inclined to
call animal control?  Tell her exactly what is happening and see if she
understands your problem.

I would probably try putting cat repellents around the home and see if that
works first.
