I bought a bag of (non-dyed) pistachio nuts and have been snacking on them. Persia was sniffing at the bag, crying, whining, fussing. So I gave her a shelled pistachio. She licked at it, pretended to chew on it, spit it out and left it on the carpet. Now she's whining at the bag again. What does she want from me?! I can't make the pistachios into something she wants to eat just because I like them! Then, 90% of the time when I do give her something, she rejects it. She developed a habit of begging wildly for turkey. I'd give her a few bits and she'd devour them.
