It's a conspiracy to make you freak out. :o) Aww, about Mike's headbonk.
But seriously, cats are such creatures of habit. When Frank wants to sit in
my lap, he walks me to the one chair where my lap is good enough for him. He
will not stay in my lap if I sit in any other chair. When I visited Lena in
Sweden, her Thea was a pretty aloof kitty, except when she was up on Lena's
desk by her computer. There she changed into a total lovebug. Nikki likes
roughhousing, but only when she is on top of the cat tree. Of course, this
is just to torture me, because she knows I'm afraid she'll fall off the tree
as she rolls around in wild kitty mode. If I try to play rough with her on
the bed, for example, she stalks away in a huff.

It's true. Roxy has an area on the floor in the living room, which is her
official "Petting Area". So if she's on the couch, and I start petting her,
she'll actually get up, go over to the Petting Area, and roll over onto
her back, with her front paws curled up and under in the trademark "cute
kitty" pose. In her Petting Area, she expects me to scratch her up and
down her spine, pat her flank hard and fast, over and over, and play a bit
of "move the stick in and out from under the throw rug".
If I start petting her in some area other than the Petting Area, and she
*doesn't* happen to be in the mood (and thus doesn't get up to go to the
Petting Area), she will flick her tail in annoyance and glare at me.
