It snowed in Austin last night! The garden is (almost) covered in white
and it's gorgeous! I'll put some pictures online later today. The cats
are all indoors staying warm. It's supposed to warm up to the 50's (10's
in celcius) so it won't last. In the meantime, Tom and I are enjoying a
rare treat: a white Valentine's Day! Heck, a white any day here in
Central Texas!

When I saw your title I thought Tom must have whisked you away for a
Valentine's getaway to some noirthern state. :o) Congrats on the snow, enjoy
it while you can! Why not let the cats go out and explore the white stuff?
Or is it too icky for them?
Your post reminded me to post this picture I took of one of my windows after
we had a big snowstorm in January. You will see the snow has stuck all over
the window, and covers the bottom part of it. Now, I live on the
second/third floor, and the pic is a bit misleading. The nether floors were
not covered in snow, the wet snow had just been driven against the window by
the hard wind and it stuck there in droves. Oh, and the house across the
yard is finished and people have moved in!

Well, the cats don't particularly like either cold or their harness.
Everytime I put the harness on, they complain and complain and walk like
if they were drunk. :-)
Last year we had an ice storm around this time of year, I missed it
because I was in California at a conference. Tom said the whole garden
was frozen, including the floor of the cat porch. He was sitting on the
computer when he saw Issa whiz by in a frenzy towards the cat door. Issa
was out for about 0.1 seconds and came tearing back with eyes wide as
saucers... he was almost screaming "what the heck was that?!?!?!?!"

LOL! We had temps around -15 C last weeks, and when I opened the balcony
door for Nikki, she would shake her head and turn back. The problem, as
usual, was that she trusted that I could make it warmer, and she had to
check about every five minutes, so I had to be opening the door for her
every so often. Each time she was so disappointed when it was still just as
cold.
Yesterday, it was around 0 C, and I left the balcony door open for several
hours, and the cats were starting to enjoy the balcony once again. Soon
they'll be able to sunbathe there again! (I wish, it'll be a couple of
months yet.)

Dang... 0 degrees C (32 F) and you had your balcony door open?!?!?!?!
Here in Central Texas we turn the heat on when the temperatures drop
below 60 F (15 C)... :)

Wow, I didn't know it ever snowed in Austin. That's the kind of snow you can
really enjoy, because you know it won't be around for long. We are far north of
you and haven't had one snow all year.

Beautiful! Since my stupid dial-up and stupid Jurassic Packard computer are
slow as molasses today, I marked your website to peruse later on DH's computer.
The pics that I *did* see are just gorgeous.

Victor, truly an amazing sight! Good photography. Been meaning to ask since
originally seeing your garden on Tom's website: I thought there was
something familiar about the "laundry" flying in wind there: would those be
Buddhist prayer flags, by any chance? My RB sister left me a set and that's
the only reason I'd recognize such. Needless to say, I don't get any of the
printing but treasure them because of the source.

They sell them here as Tibetan prayer flags, probably the same thing.

Wow Victor - your pictures and garden are so beautiful. I love your
conversation room! I feel so lucky that I actually get to see it in person
... let alone you, Tom *and* all the kitties. Just over three weeks ...

We had the same up in SW Oklahoma. When I went ot bed the forecast was
saying we'd get a dusting at most, but this morning had snow on the
grass and trees, with snow falling until about 2. So, Sammy did her
usual snow dance - running from living room, kitchen and bedroom
looking out all the windows - which meant I had to get up and let her
out to chase snowflakes. Nothing like an 11lb cat jumping from the
next next to the bed, onto the hoomin in bed, and over to the window
to get the hoomin up.

I'm jealous! Snow is just as rare here - in fact, I can only remember
twice in my life that we've had snow that stuck. One of those times,
though, was on Christmas - against monstrous odds, we actually had a
white Christmas one year! None of our kitties have ever seen snow,
and I'd love to be able to see that happen.

Ha-ha! My sister just moved near San Antonio and was bragging about
the gorgeous weather. She had to go buy an electric heater. <G>
