Thank you everyone for your kind words. It was a tough night last night,
I didn't sleep much. I kept remembering watching poor Max get run over
by the truck. Your words of encouragement have helped me feel a little
better today.
I met Max a few weeks after we moved into our house. He would come to
the front yard and Luna would start yowling at him through the kitchen
window. That went on almost daily, so we started calling him "enemy
kitty". He was too skitish with us, I never managed to get close enough
to pet him, though I tried. I didn't even know his name until I
delivered his body to his family. He was loved by them and he will be
missed. I won't miss him upsetting our kids and spraying our door, but I
would gladly have that if that meant he was still with us.
I'm sure I'll meet him at the RB one day, his humans are young and
should outlive me. I'll ask Quetzie tonight to show him around the RB
and to whack him over the head for being mean to Luna. Then to kiss him
and tell him how sorry I am he died so young.
Thanks for listening.

I'm glad you're feeling better...seeing any animal killed no matter what the
circumstances usually burns an indelible image on my brain that I just can't
shake. I suspect, as kindhearted as you seem, you're having a problem with that
too.
I also am reminded of Dimitri, the un-neutered neighbor cat who made a pest out
of himself regularly when we were in the 'burbs. I chased him away from the
porch often. You were doing what any of us would do.

Victor - Max's death was *not* your fault. Honest.
I'll be lighting a candle for Max and sending soothing vibes across the
cyberaether.

Hugs to you, Victor. I know that if I had to witness something like
that it would be enormously upsetting for me. I think you are being
wonderful about it all.

A lovely tribute to Max, Victor, the last 2 lines had me in tears though -
beautifully written. You are a very special person and your kitties and Tom
are lucky to have you.
hugs,
Christine

Awww, poor Max, and poor you! I think that cats are not as road-savvy
as we wish they were, and that if they regularly cross roads where
vehicles travel faster than 25 mph, they're surviving on luck, and not
on smarts. I've *almost* run over cats enough times that I think that
every cat that does get run over probably had about 10 prior Stacey
style Near Death Experiences. I'm all for letting cats outside if
that's what they and their slaves decide, but it's definitely often a
risk/reward tradeoff.
