I was watching TV and heard a loud conmotion coming from the dining
room, like someone was charging against the door that leads to the car
port. I got up and saw the neighbor's cat attacking Luna through the
glass. I chased our cats away from the door and got out to chase Max
away. I scared him off and he ran across the street to his house, but he
got run over by a truck. I picked him up and took him home. He was dead.
I'm crying uncontrollably as I type this. Forgive me Max. I didn't mean
for this to happen. I was just trying to protect my kids, they get
really upset when he comes and confronts them. I couldn't have known a
speeding truck would come tearing down the street. Please forgive me.

Oh, Victor...{{{hugs}}}
You are right in saying that you could not have known about the truck -
especially if they were speeding. At least his people will not have to
wonder about what happened to him. I'll get Brenna's purr-motor going
when I get home and send purrs for Max's journey to the RB, and for you
to find comfort where you can in this.

Victor...Victor, amigo de gatos - get Tom to give you a *monster* hug from
the Hopitus!
Max's accident was not your doing, please don't blame yourself for it. His
hoomins chose to let him be an outside kinda cat and the possibility of
vehicular demise is always there, it could happen at any time. Just bad luck
that Max got it while you were watching. Max had a painless immediate trip
to RB and is beyond hurting. You have turned to your friends here; we want
to keep *you* from hurting from an accident you could not have any control
over.
Over the years there have been cat deaths I still grieve over - mainly
ferals I was unable to catch/recatch in territories other than my own - very
easy to believe that with a little more effort/whatever I could have saved
them - self-defeating illogical thoughts. It is bad enough to have seen your
neighbors' cat get hit; please accept comforting purrs and meatloaf
meditations from the Evil 3 here and [[[[[[[[hugs]]]]]]]] from Hopitus2. A
stiff drink wouldn't hurt right now.

Of course you had no way of knowing that the truck would show up at that

sometime with the same result.
But it was an awful thing for you to witness.

Oh Victor! You couldn't have possibly known about that speeding truck. You
were doing the right thing as far as you could have possibly known. And then
when tragedy struck, you were still brave enough to go outside and take Max
back to his people rather than just pretending you didn't know what
happened.
I know youare going to beupset and feel terribly guilty, but don't beat

Oh Victor, I'm so sorry this happened. But you couldn't know about the
truck coming right at that time. When people keep outdoor cats, that is a
risk they take every day. That it had to happen right when you chased him
away from your house is terribly bad luck but don't beat yourself up about
it. I'm very sorry and sending purrs for Max's trip to the RB as well as

Whenever I see a stray dog, I try to catch it to take it home. Whenever they

I would just hate to accidentally startle the animal into the street. I've seen

About every other week I decide I have to quit reading this list because of

Victor, I would feel exactly the same as you. When I think of the
times I have chased Deo away from B & C and yes, sometimes he has dashed
across the road. But look at the alternative, do you let other cats
beat up your fur kids? Of course not. The road is my own personal
nightmare for any of the cats around here, even although it is not a
busy one. FSP
has obviously always been an outside cat and even though I lock her up
at night she is desperate to get out in the morning. Where does she
go? You have it in one, straight across the road!!

Oh Victor, I'm so sorry. Of course you couldn't know. Many purrs
and prayers for you and for Max. Please don't blame yourself. You
were just being a good Paw and looking out for your own babes.

Victor, it was an accident. The truck was more at fault for sppeeding around
corners is dangerious. I hope you feel less guilt soon.

I'm so sorry for you and Max. What a horrible accident; but it was an
*accident*, nonetheless. Many purrs for you and Max, and a candle to
help Max find his way to the Bridge.
*Sigh* I wish there was something else I could say. Don't beat yourself
up too severely is about all I can come up with.
I saw a cat once seconds after it was hit by a car. I got out; the poor
kitty was having a grand mall seizure; he died in my arms. I felt so
helpless. So I know a *little* bit of what you are going through.

Victor Ihave only just caught this post,I'm really upset for you
I cry whenever I read something like this. I've lost .two cats this
way the 2nd I carried around for two hours just crying untill my
daughtercame home and took him off me. But the first one was 35 yrs ago, and
I
still cry about that one because like you I blamed myself,I was freaked out
about something and completely forgot he was out all alone, dont do
what I've done and carry it with you,we're not super mums and dads,
we just try to do our best and things sometimes happen that we can't
change. I'm sending many many Purrs to you, and for Max,
and for his Family,I'm sure they must know how bad you feel, and
knowing how much you love Cats, [and I'm sure you've written about
Max, as I thought at first he was your cat ] They will notwant you to carry
the blame{{{{{{{warmest hugs}}}}} Jean.

Victor, how could you know that this would happen? Max was an
indoor/outdoor cat, without limits upon his movement, right? This could
have happened at any time. It was just your bad luck that it happened
with you present. Purrs to you, your furkids and sympathy and healing
thoughts for you all. Also purrs and good trip thoughts for Max's
travels to the Bridge.
