You know, I'm 57 years old and had cats all my life, so maybe G-d saw
fit to send me this orphan I picked up about 2 years ago, because He
has such a great sense of Humor. (remember this is the same guy who
made Australia! And men...)
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't consider not keeping my Miss TillyAnn,
it's just that I am amazed at the way her mind works sometimes. I
think she was sent to me at this point in my life because our focus
changes as we age and simple things become more important, besides we
needed each other.
Anyway, have you ever gotten up in the morning, walked into your
living room to discover that some time in the night your darling
"little" (she is about half the size of the others) decided to see how
far she (aided by the other 3, I suspect) could possibly spread the
contents of the paper shredder's basket which, when full (you guessed
it!), holds about 18 ozs of shredded paper.
This over a brown carpet.
Believe me, this is when you make that famous-maker vacuum cleaner
earn its money. After you have raked up (don't ever try to sweep
shredded paper off a carpet, trust me!) the bulk of it and deposited
it in the trash (be careful here - that same helpful cat is likely to
tip over the trash can and try the same thing in the kitchen!).
I think maybe I've had my morning's entertainment, I know a small
yellow cat had a lot of fun watching me clean it up. I can loan her
out along with the shredded paper if any of you would like to try this
in your house...

I don't need the cat to help me.  I have discovered I can achieve the
same result by letting the basket slip out of my hands.  (great
exercise!)

There is NO way you could spread it as thoroughly as Maggi told me
about.

You are probably right about that!
cheerios are another one:  hard to find, but can be swept up.

Mine do their own shredding: the tear up the corrugated cardboard
insert of their 'Turbo Scratcher' (tm) and spread the pieces all over
the living room carpet.  And you're right about raking the stuff up,
with a real leaf rake from the garden shed (which last time I had to
wade through snow to get to).

Today I discovered that one or more of them had gotten into the only
cabinet (under the sink) in the back bathroom and shredded an entire
roll of toilet paper.  At least they didn't get it on any carpet.
