only conditions her to expect attention from me at any time and leads
inevitably to her sitting in front of the monitor poking the keyboard?

When MIschief jumps on my lap while I'm at the computer, I'll be
petting her with my left hand, and after a while she starts nudging my
right hand which is operating the mouse.
Clearly she's saying "You're supposed to pet me with TWO hands!"
