Today I have a stress-induced migraine. Grrr...

I'm in the process of having a new kitchen put in. My old kitchen is ripped
out, so I have the cooking & cleaning facilities of the third world. The room
is bare-walled, bare-floored and I have a camp stove.

My new kitchen (units & other fittings) should have been delivered yesterday.
It wasn't. To cut a long story short, the company I bought the kitchen from (a
major retailer in the UK) does not answer the phone. After sitting on the phone
all day I eventually managed to find out the delivery had been put back to the
end of the month and indeed, another part said it had been cancelled...

So I got in the car & drove to the shop. Politely and firmly made my deep upset
and immense anger known. The guy at the shop was fine. He some digging and
found out the kitchen is at the delivery depot. So he would be chasing it. I
gave him a polite but firm ultimatum along the lines of "Friday at the latest,
I am a reasonable woman, but after Friday, I won't be. I am verging on being
menopausal, so I can blame my fluctuating hormones for any actions I may carry
out after that day" ;-)

This morning, Vernon had an appointment in the same place where the delivery
company is located, so he called in to find out *for sure* the kitchen was
still there. Indeed it is, but the company then informed Vernon that they
didn't know when they could deliver it as they are fully booked until the end
of the month and indeed, they had the kitchen loaded for delivery yesterday but
were told by the retailer the order had been cancelled, hence that was the
reason they didn't deliver. They then made Vernon pay £35 for a courier to
deliver it tomorrow.

Needless to say I went ballistic.

So I did a strong, but polite fax to the retailer, pointing out that its error
was costing unnecessary and unfair extra expense and additional stress and what
do they intend to do about it.

The retailer has called, apologised and paid the cost of the courier, but I am
totally stressed-out  and now have a raging migraine. Plus, I have the kitchen
ceiling to paint by tomorrow...

AAAGGGHHHH!!!

So I am going to take some pain-killers, have a nice cup of tea and de-stress
myself by cuddling a cat for an hour or so.

Cheers, helen s

Soothing, "very quiet", anti-migrane purrs comming your way.  Hope
things clear up and your kitchen gets done soon!

Call the media on this one.  Surely there's a current affairs program in the
U.K.  They'd eat this one up!  The bad publicity would do wonders for your
feelings, and would get your kitchen done by Friday, no doubt.

I'm still at the hands of those invisible greebligs who hold up items of
interest and deliveries.

Be assertive. In the past I have been known to have regional managers of
companies in actually doing the work themselves, as their company staff have
been so inept. I do a company search for the contact details of the Chief
Execs, Managing Directors and I go to the top. And I am a PITA about keeping in
contact - they understand I will not be going away until the mess is sorted. It
usually works remarkably well. But it is stressful.

How frustrating.  Don't you get tired of having to tell people how to do the
jobs they are paid to do?
Gentle hugs and soothing purrs are on the way in hopes that you will be
feeling better and have your new kitchen up and running very soon.

It sounds like you could also use some purrs, so here they are, fresh from
the fearsome Finnish felines, who would also like to send some particularly
soggy regurgitated grass to the company that didn't do its job.

Thanks to the Finnish felines - I appreciate the purrs for me and the vomit for
the company :-)

Man. Many soothing purrs. I always thought "kitchen horror stories" were
largely apochryphal. I guess not!! I'm sure in the end it will be worth it.

Calming purrs and meatloaf mediatations on the way. It certainly has
been stressful for you lately ;-(

Purrs that they'll get there act together and your new kitchen will be
operational soon

When all this is over, file a complaint with whatever licensing board
is in your vicinity,  Best of luck.

Sending calming purrs and litterbox offerings to whoever said the order was
cancelled. Will we we be seeing your story on Watchdog?

Thank you. Watchdog only do stuff where people have been waiting months.
Personally speaking, I'd be decamping off to the comapny HQ and setting up my
camping stove in the  company carpark - complete with stoiry to press long
before Watchdog would be interested.

You poor thing :( It's horrible what these big firms think they can get away
with. They didn't though did they? Well done.

Poor Helen! Here's some quiet, soothing purrs and that wonderful feel of
furryness next to your skin.

I assume you folk have a consumer affairs group over there that you can make
formal complaints about business practices to.

Get their forms, fill them out with a future date (ie, the day after the
ultimatum) and then take a copy, plus copy all other documentation that is
associated with the contract. Keep a good diary regarding the events leading
up to this point, and who said what to whom. This is part of your evidence.

Make an appointment with the manager of the kitchen place, and then hand him
the copy of the papers and say that you will send the originals off to the
Better Business Beareu (or whoever it is) on that date if things have not
turned out to your satisfaction. Say that you really don't want to do so,
but they've put you in a position where you feel you have to. Be very clear
and precise about what resolution you want - don't be unreasonable, but on
the same token, don't get pushed around either. Ensure he knows that if it
goes over a reasonable time period you will be expecting compensation for
the inconvenience caused.Take notes of the meeting, get the manager to sign
your notes as a true and correct copy.

If you do send off the complaint, send it registered post and then show the
manager the reciept of the letter. at this point, a letter to the tabloids
and/or current affairs programs would not be out of line.

Good luck!
