Pat - 01 Feb 2004 21:35 GMT I just love the smell of cat BREATH.
Am I the only one?
jmcquown - 01 Feb 2004 21:46 GMT > I just love the smell of cat BREATH. > > Am I the only one? Can't say I've ever smelled anything on Persia's breath. But it's not quite the same as dog breath, or puppy breath, is it?
I love to bury my nose in Persia's side and sniff... she smells sort of sweet :)

GraceCat - 01 Feb 2004 22:43 GMT Mutt's breath isn't bad. It's fresh.
Umm.. except when she's been raiding the trash bag for one of Eve's diaper deposits.. *grrrr*

Cat breath is rotten in its own way but it's a very different smell. You hafta get right up close and sniff while they're yawning, or else pry their little teefies apart and stick your nose right in there.
Try it and let me know.... :D

Takayuki - 02 Feb 2004 06:00 GMT >I love to bury my nose in Persia's side and sniff... she smells sort of >sweet :) Cats seem to have pretty subtle scents. I guess they're constantly deodorizing themselves by licking. Speaking of which, I sometimes wonder why they're not thirsty all the time, with all the licking that they do.
Cats are a feast for the senses though. When I hold Betty, I like to drape her over my shoulder and hold her against my ear, so that I can hear her purr. She doesn't seem to mind me treating her like a seashell. :)

She gently digs her front paws into my back and "hugs" me and I sort of dance around with her on my shoulder and listen to her purrrrrrrrrrrr.

Sherry - 02 Feb 2004 19:53 GMT >>I love to bury my nose in Persia's side and sniff... she smells sort of >>sweet :) Jill, Frank smells like that too. Almost very vauguely perfumey. Maybe it's from being loved on by us, and it's a mix of the cologne and stuff we wear.

Nothing to account for this scent. I do love it, though :)

Hopitus2 - 01 Feb 2004 23:49 GMT Love the smell of Evil 3's furry little bodies....but cat breath...not appealing, though not Godawful. Think it's their diet, different from hoomins.

You just haven't smelled my cat's breath. :) When Licorice licks the tip of my nose, I get a strong whiff, and whew!! Glad that doesn't happen all the time.

Marina - 02 Feb 2004 05:13 GMT > When my Siamese (RB) developed horrible breath, the Vet discovered two > teeth decayed at the gumline. She was her sweet old self again when > they were removed. Frank has trouble with his teeth, and I know when to take him for a teeth-cleaning when his breath starts to smell really bad. I don't know what to do to help him, since his tummy gets upset from all brands of supposedly tooth-cleaning kibble I've tried, and he retches at the kitty toothpaste. I give him fresh meat about every second day, hoping that that will help keep his teeth clean. It's a bit of a worry each time he has to have his teeth cleaned, because the older he gets, the harder the anaesthesia seems to be on him.

My vet recommended raw chicken necks for dental health.
Shmogg didn't like them, of course, but Frank might.

I was wondering about that, but Licorice is only 7 or 8 months old, so it's hard to believe he'd be suffering tooth decay already!

Hmmmm, maybe ;-) The only time I ever sniff Vino's breath is when he comes up to tell me that he's starving and it's time for his canned food dinner. And I love to smell her fur. It smells fresh and clean. Sometimes I pick her up and tickle her tummy with my nose. But only for a little while, as once she's had enough, she has a good bunny kick!

Pat - 02 Feb 2004 19:06 GMT Well after reading all these replies, I guess I must be insane after all. The cat-breath odor I'm referring to apparently is not what most people would consider pleasant. But the truth is that one big reason for having cats around me is addiction to the unique smell of their breath. If I was able to do it, I would also have sheep, simply so I could listen to their voices. I love the sound of sheep, just like I love the smell of cats' breath.

Insane about our kitties that is.
