Does your cat "pose" for photos?

jmcquown - 31 Jan 2004 13:04 GMT I swear, when I get my digital camera out, Persia stops and poses for me. The other evening she was looking so cute, lying on her side with her front paws drawn up by her chin. I thought she was asleep but, nontheless, I tried to fool her by reaching for a glass of water. Sure enough, her eyes opened the moment I moved my arm. I drank from the water, then set the glass down. Her eyes had closed again. Then I reached for the camera. Eyes snapped open.
Then she started being even more cute... sort of rolling around and offering better poses. As I got her into focus she'd look at me, think close her eyes as if to say "This is what you wanted, right?" ROFL Sometimes she couldn't resist peeking to make sure I was still taking pictures. Vain kitty!

Penny is also camera shy and will leave the area as fast as she can when the camera is around. Pine Cone poses, or leaves, depending on his mood, and the rest can take the camera or leave it. I'm not a good photographer, so they don't have a lot to worry about.

Nancy could care less, but >Patrick hates it and refuses to look at the camera (I believe he doesn't >like the flash). Betty doesn't like the flash either, but I think they all like the attention. Betty will work hard to look cute if I look at her. Sometimes, if she's meatloafing and I look her way, it causes her to flop over and show her belly. It almost looks as though I can push her over with my gaze, since she always flops away from me so that her belly is facing in my direction.

Takayuki - 31 Jan 2004 21:43 GMT >New piccies??? Well, Betty still dislikes the camera, though I did finally get a picture of the both of us by setting the camera on a timer and holding Betty (sometimes seems like the only to get her to sit still for a pic). I think I sent a copy of that one to Charleen. I've also occasionally been able to take pictures of her when she's napping on my lap. Those are easy, because she's asleep.
One of these days, I'll also have to get a video of Betty begging to get on my lap, which is sometimes funny to see. I don't think I have any photos of her doing her tummy display, but I do have a picture where you can see her belly:

Is she a small cat?
Regarding eyes, I noticed that when Betty's pupils are dilated, the irises are yellow, and when they're contracted (as they are in the pic), her eyes look green. I think it's because the inner contracting portion of her irises are bluish. I wonder if all cats are more or less like that?

Very sweet picture of Betty, but where is the one of you and Betty? :o) I think that the eyes of black cats look even bigger because they are surrounded by black. Nikki's eyes are huge, too, and so are Frank's.

Nikki's >eyes are huge, too, and so are Frank's. I didn't consider that - the biggest eyes I've seen are on some light colored cats, like those incredible blue orbs on Julie's Selena. A black cat with those eyes would look amazing.
The me & Betty pic didn't come out that great, because Betty was looking directly into the flash. I guess I'm not very good with cameras and flashes.

She looks a lot like my girls. There's a couple of each of mine on the animal site at my web page listed below my sig.
Also popped over and saw her at the shelter. Tried the link for the movie stills, but only received an error message ;-((

I didn't expect anyone to go to the default page, since I don't have links going back to it! :) I've corrected it, so that http://mywebpages.comcast.net/Takayuki9z now at least has valid links to the other Betty-related content. Maybe someday I'll be motivated to set things up with captions and thumbnails like your site has.

Nikki sometimes does that exact roll when I talk to her. Betty's eyes are very like Nikki's eyes, big and innocent-looking.

Oh, I keep forgetting that you're one of us. Massachusetts is not all that different from Finland - they both have about the same population. :) You must be happy that your football team won!

Mischief - 31 Jan 2004 18:10 GMT Mischief will pose occasionally, but Imp is camera shy. It sucks sometimes, because he'll be in a very cute pose, and I grab the camera, but as soon as I take aim, he gives me this look, "Ahh! They've spotted me! EVIL CAMERA!!! Run away!"
Imp kinda approaches things like everything's an evil trick. Like he'll go running when I walk to my bedroom, "Eek! scary human is after me!"

JP Hobbs - 01 Feb 2004 01:34 GMT Wilson hates having his photo taken too,. as soon as I go for the camera he's either gone when I get back or he's changed position to a boring onehe knows I wont want. Jean P.

The only pics of my crew are from one night when a friend brought over his camera. On that ocassion, Sammy was the only one who looks good. Rocky ran from the flash, so the only pix of him are out on the patio with his eyes shut. The only reason we got those was because the food bowl was filled. Little Bit was on the bed napping, and wasn't exactly thrilled either, but at least she didn't run like Rocky.

Laurence - 02 Feb 2004 16:15 GMT Posing kitty? Well...
The office one ruins it when you try to take apicture of him as he'll try to give you a kiss so the vast majority of pics you'll get are close ups of noses. The times I've managed it are when he's just eaten a load and can't move or when he's in my lap. Any other time, he's an orange blur rolling on the ground. He's such a loveable village idiot.
HOWEVER, my friend has 2 kitties, one of which is an amazing poser.

Tzara's the poser and he's like, the second half of the gallery.

For some reason SUgar is like that. Even when she is still, all her pictures are a bit blurred. It's like she vibrates or something! I"ve gotten decent shots of both Pearl and Grant, but Sugar is yet elusive to a really clear shot.

These were great photos! I love the one of Gideon that says "it is an elusive fish" - because it's also an elusive cat! Of course he reminds me of Licorice, and Tzara (nice name, wonder where it comes from?) reminds a bit of Roxy. The "mwah" picture was adorable - I want to kiss that stripey head!
Also, in the picture of the calico and her baby, it took me a while to see that there were actually two cats in that photo! They're both colored so similarly that they looked like one animal at first.
