Dick C - 30 Jan 2004 03:44 GMT It's been awhile since I poste here. So just to remind anyone who is silly enough to read this, my wife and I have 2 cats. Shroder, an orange tabby, and Libby, who is multicolored, but not quite a tortoise shell. Anyways, we are moving on Saturday from a 3 bedroom to a one bedroom apartment. Consequently we have been going through and tossing out a lot of junk. Sue was cleaning out a closet and pulled out a box and emptied it. I was taking out the trash. When I came in I started to talk to Sue and Shroder started talking to me. He was curled up in a box and would not stop talking until I told him how nice his box was. :). Another day, I was emptying out the book case, and both cats came walking over to investigate, of course. I had a box about half full of books and Shroder jumped in it, curled up and looked at me like as if to say "This is my box, you cannot have it." Meanwhile Libby jumped up onto an empty shelf, curled up and went to sleep. I decided to take a break.

They are so helpful, aren't they? ;o) Purrs that the move goes well.

> Lots of best wishes for the move to go smoothly, Thanks, I do too. The move will also involve going from a 56 k modem to a cable connection with a new ISP, so I am not sure how that is going to work out. I can handle the setup and installation, as I am a displaced IT worker. I am just not sure about having com cast as a provider.

Hopitus2 - 31 Jan 2004 21:28 GMT You will be pleased with the fastest speed online that $ can buy. It (rarely) goes down once in awhile when the Net is very busy, but problems never last long. Dude, I have an important tip for you re Comcast: make sure the tech who comes out to install & get the modem going *knows what he is doing*! Ours did *not* and it took a repeat visit from Comcast tech support to finish what he only started...but you should be in a much better position to judge him, AFA being a PC person.

All went well, it was easy for the tech, all he had to do was hook up the cable, plug in his test box, make note of some numbers, then plug in the modem and check the lights. He left me the software I needed. I was not able to even set up the pc for several hours, but when I did it saw the modem, configured the drivers, and when I loaded the setup cd i connected immediately and went through the registration steps. Quick and easy, took 20 minutes, at the most. I am very impressed. On a side note, Comcast is offering McAfee Personal fire wall for free. It is a good idea, but it took longer to download, instal and configure than it took me to connect to comcast.

Kim Walters - 01 Feb 2004 02:18 GMT I've been with ATT Broadband/Comcast for almost a year. It is worth every penny. When I was on earthlink, I got dumped every 5 minutes. When they took over from ATT, they decided to change everyone's email to comcast.net. I don't know who they told, but most people ended up reading it the paper (Boston Globe). At lot of business's were very upset, this would be the third change in a year. They really listened. They moved back the start date, and are forwarded the old attbi addresses to comcast.net for 18 months! I did have a problem installing it on the old computer, but their tech services walked me through it, and it was just plug it in when we got the new computer. I highly recommend them.
I would also note, they seem to be able to screen out a lot of the virus, I keep getting "bounce backs" because someone forged the address, but I don't seems to get the virus itself.

They're pretty good, will never go back to dial up again if I can help it. However, they do go down once in a blue moon but are back up right away. I will have my dial-up subscription so I have access to my email and newsgroups if Comcast ever went down. Good luck, you'll love cable modem. Jazz & his mama
