Pussykins, at the age of nearly 21, was pushed gently into "cat heaven"
by our vet today. She had not been eating for nearly ten days and the
vet finaly said that she had nothing left to offer her. We agreed to
give her the "final" injection and terminate her suffering. I felt such
a traitor as she trustingly "bumped" my nose and hands before she
drifted off to sleep and finally stopped breathing.
She came to us in 1983 as a tiny kitten and from the very start made it
clear that she was in charge. It was clear to her that
our bed was hers as well. She noted that we probably needed feeding
and contributed with presents of live voles in the small hours of the
morning. Her three kittens have all pre-deceased her.
Going home this evening and not being greeted by her welcoming
"purrr-miaow" noise is going to be very hard.It is very strange
how attached you can get to a cat, but I hope that in a few weeks
I will be able to look back in happiness on our long and varied
companionship and the worry of the last few weeks and the trauma
of today will slowly fade.
With apologies for sharing my grief with you
/mike

Don't apologise, thanks for sharing - please come back and share more
memories, or if you have pics somewhere of Pussykins. She sounds like a
sweetie and you were lucky to share your life with her for so long. I am
sure it was a hard but necessary decision to take.
Purrs for her passing and for the good memories to last.

Never apologize for grief. It means you loved her. She sounds like a
wonderful cat that had a long loving life. There is absolutely nothing wrong
with making her death peaceful, so do not feel guilty. It was a final gift
to her so she need not suffer with her body not able to function. Time will
ease the pain but her love is everlasting.
Many hugs

I am *so* very sorry! It sounds like she had a long, happy life with you.

We relate to your loss of Pussykins; please accept our sympathy; we've all
been there, and some of us have "done that"....the final gift of love: to
spare beloved pets from suffering in their final moments here with us.
Pussykins had a long, love-filled life with you and knew of your concern and
love for her even as she left you physically. Hold on to the happy memories,
as we have, in your heart as a means to keep her forever with you.

You weren't a traitor - you were freeing her. And maybe she bumped
your nose and hands to say thank you!
I also lost a cat at age 21. One thing that helped me with that was
thinking about what a long and wonderful life she had. She didn't die
tragically at all, and neither did your kitty. But it's still very
sad to lose a long-time friend and companion. Thanks for sharing
your tribute to her, and please don't feel sorry for doing it. That's
what we're here for!

What a lovely tribute to Pussykins, a wonderful cat by the sounds of it.
Don't feel like a traitor for helping her to the RB, you terminated her
suffering and I'm sure she is grateful to you for it. And don't apologize
for sharing your grief with us. That's what we're here for. Purrs and

Our most sincere condolences. Pussykins sounded like a wonderful furfriend.
The good memories will outweigh the hardships of the last days -- my kitty,
Frodo (almost 21 when he passed in 2000) will be there to welcome Pussykins
to the Rainbow Bridge.

Purrs and prayers to you at this extremely painful time. Pussykins was
probably saying thank you for your love and for her release from pain and
saying that she loved you too.

and I lost my beloved Henri in 2001 he was 13-1\2. I hope by now
you are feeling a little better purrs Jean.P.
