A few days ago I stepped outside my apartment to chat with a neighbor.
He has this miniature dashound and it was roaming around at our feet.
My big orange fuzzbuddy RJ was watching intently from my living room
window, studying the situation intently.
After a few minutes, I came back inside. And immediately, RJ attacked
me! He ran to me, reared up on his hind feet, and bit me on the leg.
Then he mewed angrily and pawed and scratched my legs and feet.
After a while he calmed down, but he was really jealous at first.
Do your kitties show jealousy?

Seems reasonable - you were allowing a lesser species, a d*g, to be around you.
Please learn how to be a good human ;-)

Boy, he was angry! Maybe some displaced aggression??

This makes sense to me. Maybe it wasn't jealousy, but aggression
against the dog, which you just happened to be on the receiving end
of! I've heard of cats doing that.

Oh yeah. They are just like kids. If one is on my lap the other wants to be.
If one gets out of the chair, another has to rush over and jump on it.
Spits and spats over who gets what.

I did have to add, except for Sugar. She is an angel.

Well, yes and no. There could care less about me petting other cats,
and even d*gs. Guess it's because when I'm working I come across lots
of strangers, and pet any who let me get close enough. So my crew are
used to it, and just come and sniff me to see who, or what, I might
have been petting.
The jealousy comes as they position themselves here in the apartment.
No fighting, or even hissing, involved, though, and it's kind of fun
to watch them jockeying for the best spots. They each have their own
favorite tactics. Rocky knows he's bigger than either of the girls, so
he just comes up and plops down and ignores their glares. Sammy uses
the tried and true method of laying down with her feet towards the
offender and gradually straighteneing her legs, eventually pushing
them out of the way. The other night she even managed to push Rocky
completely off the recliner foot rest and he fell on the floor. Of
course she pretened to be asleep. Rocky woke to find himself sliding
off the chair and didn't seem to realise the cause, so just put on the
feline nonchalance act and proceeded to groom. Little Bit doesn't
really compete for position. She prefers being up on my chest or by
the pillow when I'm in bed, while the other two prefer the foot rest
or foot of the bed.

Jealousy between the Evil 3 is often manifested here, but they jump each
other and not the hoomins.

Thanks for the funny story, Steve.
I had kitty jealousy when I had 3 fuzzys in the house. Now I only have
the one (but he's large economy size) and his frustrations are all
directed toward yours truly.

Tripper used to absolutely *hate* the boyfriend of a former housemate.
At one point, the guy was knocking on the door, and one of my other
housemates was sitting on the couch nearby. Tripper was so upset that
he couldn't get at the boyfriend that he turned around and attacked
Matthew, the housemate on the couch. Normally, Tripper and Matthew
got along fine. Not this time.
That boyfriend was a constant target. Tripper used to wait on a ledge
by the entry door, and swipe at Tom's head as he came in. I don't think
it was jealousy per se. Tom was a control freak, and tended to think he
owned places/people he didn't. I had to throw him out of the house once
due to his misperception that he was more important than anyone else
in the house, including the cats. I think Tripper sensed that and bad
person that I am, I never actually stopped him, since he didn't do it
with anyone else. All I did was make sure that Tom was never alone in
the house with Tripper. Having another housemate that worked from home
definitely helped...;)
In Tripper's case, I think it was displaced aggression more than
jealousy, but you never can tell....
RJ looks a lot like the cat that adopted my parents a few years ago,
"Mikey". Sweet cat, but tends to use his claws a bit too much when
he *doesn't* want you to stop petting him...;)
