Newscene seems to have lost alt.binaries.pictures.animals. Grrrr. Tech
support never responds anymore. I guess tonight I look for a new service for
binary purposes. Grrrrr.

If you find one, Karen, could you post it here, too?  Thanks.

Hi Karen,

I noticed a question from you on alt.binaries.pictures.animals where you
asked if your photo of Pearl had appeared.  I just thought I would let you
know here -- in case you still can't see images on that newsgroup -- that
Pearl's picture shows up on my ISP, and it is a beautiful photo.  You have
also had a number of messages posted there as a result of your question.

Thanks. They are starting to show up now. Newscene says they have somekind
of syncing problem that should be fixed next week. We'll see.

I _almost_ ran into a a bigger problem yesterday night. I couldn't connect
to my ISP's news server at all! I knew that they perform their periodical
maintenance on Sunday nights, so I called them, and, yes, that was what was
going on. All right, I went to bed. But this afternoon I still couldn't get
in. Hmmm...

I use Outlook Express as my news reader, and I looked at the details in the
error message: 'Authentication required', it said. What? I have been
subscribing to this ISP for more than two years, and I have never had any
problem with athentication to the news server, but obviously, yesterday they
found out "Let's scare the hell out of these stupid customers of ours, and
see how many of them manages to put in a legal user name an password in the
OE settings! Ha-ha!" I did, and now it works fine again, but I had some very
confused hours before i figured it out...

It wouldn't be so bad, but this has been going on for almost three months.
If the free server were having as bad of problems, I would say 'OK,
propogation difficulties' but the german serving is doing fine. At least
they did answer my email today. They have ignored the last two I sent. I
don't mind paying for news service if it is decent. If individual.net can do
as well as it does on a non pay basis, I would expect more from one that is
getting funded!!

Sympathize with your trouble. Rarely it's happened to me: but paying through
the nose for cable ISP, I don't send email - call their tech
support/cust.svc. on phone (easy to do since cable doesn't use your phone
line) and rave at them till they walk me through a solution, as they have
all the answers, including the long-forgotten password access business for
mail and newsgroups of all types. And yes, giganews does offer that
binary...I never go to binaries, but did this time: the Black Pearl in
profile is a beauty, indeed, at her window seat.

Yeah, I don't know what's wrong with Newscene.  They were great for 3 years
and in the last couple of months, things have gone severely downhill.  I
have set up the German newsserver and am getting many more posts per day on
that one.  Since I can't do binaries with my super slow connection anyway, I
have decided to cancel Newscene at the end of the month and save myself
$17.95 CDN.
I hope you figure out what's going on with them or find a better server that
does binaries.
