Well, I finally got to see the last LOTR movie.  I was holding out until I
could see it in ultimate comfort in Bangkok at the lazy boy recliner
theatre.  And ooooohhhhh, was it worth it :-)
Since I was there last, they had re-furbished the theatre and now the
recliners are leather and the reclining mechanism is done by your own
personal remote control instead of the lever on the side.  You also get
socks and a blanket and a pillow.   It was pure heaven, especially since the
movie was so long.
Dennis and I got a bottle of red wine delivered to our seats during the
movie too.  It was so great.  And best of all, halfway through the movie,
there was a 6 minute intermission for a pee break!  How great is that???
Oh yeah, and the movie was good too ;-)

Sox, blankets, pillow?  How cold is the theatre?  How clean are those
things?

Well, when you live in Thailand, you get used to heat.  So when the air
conditioned theatre is maybe 21-22 degrees Celsius, that feels absolutely
freezing!  I'm very serious here.  At that temp, I'm in jeans and a polar
fleece and my teeth will chatter.  And I'm originally from Canada, so I know
cold.  But after 3 years here........
Anyway, the socks are brand new, it's the kind that they hand out in
airplanes.  Same for the pillow, it has a removable paper cover, they
probably change that after each use.  The blanket was polar fleece, I should
hope they clean those too.

Gawd!  They didn't have movie theatres like that in Bangkok 30-something
years ago!

Heh. On R&R from Nam to Bangkok, I don't think many of us were looking
for movies...

No, I'm sure they didn't.  From what I've heard, 30 years ago they didn't
even have coffee and dairy products!  But things have come a long way in the
last 10 years.  Bangkok is now a very modern city with a wonderful sky train
system and a subway set to open next month (YAY!!!) and some great glitzy
shopping centres, etc.  You should come back sometime to see how it's
changed :-)

So do I!! I can do without the intermission, it would have been nice but
not necessary for me and even the chairs wouldn't have to be nice
leather lazy boy recliners. But the chairside service would have to be a
must!!

Well, they usually don't have an intermission for shorter movies.  But this
one was 3.5 hours, so it was good.  And when you're drinking wine, you tend
to have to pee more often.  It's no good when you can't drink for fear of
having to hold it for hours and hours.  Then you don't enjoy the movie.  And
the nice leather recliners were great for such a long movie too.  I tend to
get a numb butt after more than 2 hours in a regular movie seat.  It all
comes at a price though, a ticket to this movie theatre is US $12.50.  A
ticket to a regular theatre, which is still very nice with stadium seating,
lots of leg room and assigned seating, is only $4.

So do I!
BTW, I don't recall seeing a single cat in the trilogy. Anyone else
note one?

I don't remember which movie (1 or 2: haven't seen 3 yet) the hobbits were
in some medieval-looking alehouse/inn or bar/restaurant at one point; I saw
a cat briefly there.

Sounds very civilized. I wished my theater would've done that (the
intermission).
