She was 12 years old. Persia kept going up to the cage and peering at the
bird over the last couple of days. I thought she was just trying to hassel
Rachel; turns out she knew something was up. I found Rachel at the bottom
of the cage this afternoon.

Awww, I'm so sorry. Cats really do have a finely-tuned sense of certain
things. Holly always dashes to me (literally dashes!) when I don't feel
well. They just seem to "sense" things that we mortals can't explain.

Oh, Jill, I'm sorry. I'm pretty sure the budgies are playing with the cats at
the RB while they're waiting. 12 years is a good long life for a parakeet. You
must have taken excellent care of her.

I am so sorry, Jill, that Rachel has had to make the trip to the Bridge.
I know that she meant a great deal to you. We shall light a candle
tonight to help guide her on her journey. Hobbes, Selena and Lacey are
sending special purrs and gentle headbutts to you and Persia and the
rest of your family.

Thanks for everyone's kind wishes. I buried Rachel next to Taz out back
under the magnolia bushes this morning. Now I've got two empty parakeet
cages to deal with (sigh).

Purrs for Rachel's flight to the bridge and for you all.
I hope she finds Rocky the budgie to keep company with. He went to RB many
years ago. Oh - just having written about Bono's interest in running water I
now remember how Rocky also used to love it, and would keep chirping to it
sitting on the zink and taking a drink from the running water every now and
then.
