Gecko on the window

Last night I was on the couch and Vino was lounging around on the
other couch.  Suddenly, I noticed him getting all tense and going into
stalking mode.  He was staring at the window above the couch I was
sitting on.  I looked and there was the big (1 foot) gecko from the
back of the house (not to be confused with the other gecko from the
front of the house).
Jill, it was a toquay.
Vino attacked the window, using me as a springboard and almost winding
me.  Within a split second, he was attached to the window screen,
looking like some sort of spider cat!
Extreme frustration ensued when he realized the gecko was on the
outside of the glass and therefore unattainable.  He threw himself at
the window repeatedly until the gecko had had enough and left.
I was giggling uncontrollably and Vino stalked off to lick his wounds

I hope the glass is good and strong.    MLB

Holy crap! That's a big gecko! The ones we have here (and that the cats
*adore*) are no more than 2-3 inches long.

Ours do the same thing, I'm afraid they'll break the glass one of these
days!

Oh, we've got those little lizards too.  They are everywhere, even
inside.  Vino hunts, kills and eats them quite efficiently!
But this was a gecko, a whole different thing altogether.  We have 2
living under the roof tiles, one in the back by the laundry room and
one in the front by the kitchen.  They can call their own name, they
go "Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, ge-cko, ge-cko, ge-cko".  The more times they
can say gecko before running out of breath, the better.  5 times is
really good.

Every so often one will have a death wish and walk into their enclosure.
I've managed to save a few from the jaws of death.

These are geckos too, an introduced species from the mediterranean. I
just read they get to be 4-5 inches long.

Hmmm... I'll have to pay attention to see if our geckos say "gecko".

I'm not sure the type you have will do that, Victor.  The kind she's talking
about (toquay or tokay) do this sort of audible wind-up before they start
calling out very loudly!  I was told they were poisonous but have been
corrected about that.  I think the maids just didn't want me bothering the
lizard - something about good luck :)

There's a chameleon who lives behind our shutter in the kitchen window.  It
comes out every day about 7:00 am.  When I open the blinds in the morning,
my cats are *on* it.  Tails thrashing the window pane, they sit, waiting for
that little head to pop out.  It's downright hysterical.

we've got heaps of little skin coloured geckos all over our house and garden
shed. they're very quick, so jasmin doesn't bother them, she mostly
harrasses skinks. I've got a special 'hospital basket' in the kitchen for
them. they don't call gecko, but they scream- it's really eerie noise in the
middle of the night.

WOW -- geckos get that big? I can imagine Captain and Stanley if they ever
saw a critter that large clinging to the window. They'd be bouncing off
the window, and probably the walls and the ceiling too, with excitement.

Heck, we had a flying ant between the outer pane (aka "storm window") and
inner pane of glass a few weeks ago. I don't know how it got in, but until
it figured out how to get back OUT, it was flying around in there and the
Units of Felinity were going nuts bapping on the glass.

If they went bananas for an inch-long bug, I can only imagine what they'd
do if a lizard nearly as long as they are was sitting in their line of
sight. It's probably better for the lizards, the cats, and my house that
we don't get lizards this far north. ;o)
