wafflycat - 07 Sep 2005 16:13 GMT Out on bike this morning. Firstly to CTC meet then into Dereham to do a spot of shopping, pop into post office, bank, that sort of thing. Anyhow, on the way to Tittleshall first thing, I round a corner and there's a couple of rabbits, half-a-dozen pheasants and a deer on the road. They saw me and scattered. A few corners further on and there's a few chickens and a couple of cats sat in the road. Again, they see me a scatter. On the way back from Tittleshall to Dereham, I round a corner and there's a group of rabbits, more pheasants and a stoat in the road. Again they see me and scatter. Is the Beeb doing auditions for a remake of "The Animals of Farthing Wood" or something???

I always used to run into this gang of rabbits in a circle. I always thought it was some kind of rabbit cult. ;)

Magic Mood Jeep© - 07 Sep 2005 22:19 GMT >>> Druish Rappits? >> [quoted text clipped - 7 lines] > > Cheers, helen s I *used* to be able to do a spot-on immitation of Elmer. Years ago when I was working for one of the local retail stores (Target), it was a less than a week before Easter, and I was sent on a quest to round up stuffed bunnies from other areas in the store to fill some shelves near the front checkout. Off I went with a cart to some of the less busy areas of the stores. I was kind of humming to myself as I rounded a corner, and there was a child (older than a toddler, not old enough to be in grade school) sitting in a cart, watching me the way children do, while Mom had her back turned looking at a product. I put an index finger to my pursed lips and said in my very bestest Elmer voice "Shhhhhh...be vewwy vewwy qwiet.... I'm huntin' wabbits!" as I proceeded to take half the bunnies off a display. The child giggled. The mom also heard me and started giggling.

They are plotting something and they scatter when you spot them!
Seriously, animals are often sensitive to upcoming natural events. I realize you don't have hurricanes but could there be something in the area they are particularly sensitive to right about now?

Anyhow, [quoted text clipped - 8 lines] > > Cheers, helen s We've got quite a bit of wildlife in our backyard too. Squirrels, birds, Possums, Badgers, Skunks, Raccoons, Cats, Rabbits galore, fish, etc.
The real characters are the Cardinals. They sit on the deck chairs outside the patio door and sing for their supper. Mrs. Cheapie even climbs the bricks by the door and peaks in the door to get your attention. She also hovers in front of the glass door to get our attention. Mr. Cheapie hangs off the eaves trough outside the back windows or hops along the window ledge to get our attention.
The smaller birds (sparrows mostly) soon learned to follow the Cardinals around and imitate their behaviour. This was amusing when there was three or four sparrows, but today was like a scene from a Hitchcock movie. We hadn't fed the birds all day, so when I looked out the patio door there were about 50 Sparrows on the patio table, two Cardinals on the deck chairs, two Blue Jays in the Spruce tree and a large number of Sparrows in the Spruce tree too. At least it gives the neighbours something to talk about. :)
Victor Martinez - 08 Sep 2005 04:32 GMT > We've got quite a bit of wildlife in our backyard too. Squirrels, birds, > Possums, Badgers, Skunks, Raccoons, Cats, Rabbits galore, fish, etc. Let's see, we have squirrels, dozens of species of birds, possums, skunks, racoons, cats, fish, toads and lots of insects. No badgers (thank goodness) and no rabbits (lucky for the rabbits, because the feral cat who hunts in our garden has earned his nickname: "Chubby").
> The real characters are the Cardinals. They sit on the deck chairs outside We get lots of those and we love them. So do the cats, watching them hanging out at the feeders. I love watching the blue jays come and get one peanut at a time and fly off to eat it in privacy. :)
> too. At least it gives the neighbours something to talk about. :)
:) Sounds like the squirrels at my in-laws' in Houston. The darned things start screaming if they don't get fed in time! One even bit my MIL one day when she was particularly late and a bit slow... :)

MLB Sometimes the bluejays will come down and demand their share of the cracked corn and peanuts from the squirrel feeder but I haven't seen a battle between them, yet, and hope not to.

badwilson - 08 Sep 2005 14:41 GMT >>> We've got quite a bit of wildlife in our backyard too. Squirrels, > [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > > Jill LOL! That's how Vino used to lie on the bannister in our living room. Pic is somewhere in the album, I've posted it here before. Anyway, he can't do that now anymore because our new leather couch is too tall in the back and it's actually level with the bannister. So there's nowhere for him to dangle his legs. Instead he's sitting perpendicular now, with his butt on the back of the couch and his front paws dangling over the bannister. No matter how you arrange the furniture around here, he always finds a way to pose cutely on it! -- Britta "There is no snooze button on a cat who wants breakfast." -- Unknown Check out pictures of Vino at: http://photos.yahoo.com/badwilson click on the Vino album
