Frozen Peas?!?

Bridget - 05 Sep 2005 23:09 GMT I haven't bought frozen peas in a while and I was eating some for a snack when Tony comes up to my bowl and starts munching down. Frozen peas? What self respecting cat likes peas when they are frozen? I mean, I know I like them, but him? He must have eaten 20 of them. I guess I save on cat food tonight.

kittyspencer@gmail.com - 05 Sep 2005 23:19 GMT Bridget,
I guess cat's can have unexpected things that they like to eat! (Although, maybe it's like kids.. if they see us enjoying something, they'll try it.) Siega always gets a little treat of a few bits of spaghetti, when we make it for dinner.

Heidi prefers them raw. She wants to roll them around and chase them a while before she eats them. They're even more satisfying than kibbles in that way.
The raw shelled beans were fun to chase, but she didn't eat them.

And the cats always spit out the peas. Usually in a neat little row.

Frozen [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > > Bridget You like frozen peas as a snack? I'll bet you'd like "Snapea Crisps", too! (They're a crispy snack made from whole pea pods - baked, I think - very good, and very unusual.) I can't remember the manufacturer's name (might be Calbee) but it's a well-known one, and Trader Joe's carrys them.

Frozen [quoted text clipped - 6 lines] > What self respecting human eats frozen pease - eeeew! They surely must > give you a belly ache? Why? They're perfectly good food. Not much different from eating fresh ones raw from the pod, and a lot of people do that. Uncooked frozen corn, too - in fact I once had a salad recipe that called for frozen corn, straight from the package. (Although IIRC, you did let it thaw before serving it.)

I know they're perfectly good food, I just can't imagine eating them before defrosting and/or cooking them. I think I must have misunderstood, you didn't mean you eat them while they're still frozen did you?

I am always open to new taste sensations, having reached 46 and only just discovered pepper on strawberries, mmm, and chips with curry sauce - my comfort food de jour.

Jane - 08 Sep 2005 16:13 GMT Curry sauce? Chips? Sounds delightful to me. I love curry. Do you buy the sauce, or make it? Can I get a recipe?

It's not actually a curry with sauce, it's actually sort of a curry flavoured sauce, kind of like a thick spicy gravy. You get it in fish & chip shops or Chinese takeaways, I've never seen a recipe for it or tried to make it as it's only about 80p for a big container, that you pour over your fries (chips) - I absolutely love it, it's not really hot spicy, if you ever get a chinese curry it's similar to that.
If I see a recipe I'll let you know.

A lot of people put salt in the grounds when they're making coffee. I think it's supposed to cut the "bitterness", but since most American coffee is not strong and bitter ENOUGH, so far as I'm concerned, I've never done that.

mlabofski@yahoo.co.uk - 08 Sep 2005 22:17 GMT Well I tried a frozen pea tonight but I still prefer mine boiled with some fresh mint and butter but it's good to try new things (once!)
Have a good and safe weekend folks, I'm off up north to see my sis before she heads back to Australia (I hate this part of her trips, saying goodbye and knowing it's another year before I see her again) - it's so horrid for my folks too, they're 81 and 83 and I can't bear to see them when she goes, not knowing if they'll ever see her again.
