You don't have to tell me! I'm glad I only have one small African parrot
(lovebird). She (Peaches) chirps like mad and if I had a flock of her kind
outside my window I'd never sleep. I cannot imagine the Galahs and
Cockatoos, budgies and so on. I swear, budgies were the loudest birds I
ever owned. Small yes, noisy... dammit, shut up! LOL
Gave Peaches a carrot yesterday and she was thrilled. Gets another slice of
Gala Apple today. I also let her chew on my hair... it's her way of getting
friendly with me, like preening me. She's a happy little one :)

How sweet! I remember my budgies sitting on my head and chewing my
hair when I was a kid.
The cockatoos and galahs make a really shattering noise, and they
start up before dawn. ;)
Here in Brooklyn, we are home to a large colony of quaker parakeets
AKA monk parakeets, which is funny, because they are very noisy and
not celibate. A few escaped from a broken crate at one of the
airports, and gave rise to this now-enormous colony that lives around
the Brooklyn College campus. Everybody loves them-- they really liven
up the neighborhood.

I'm always so glad for you when you mention Peaches. I know that your life
isn't always happy and carefree, and its so good to know you have your
buddies that need you. Peaches just seems extra special.

Awww, thanks Jo! Peaches is a happy critter. So is Persia. Animals seem
to like me. When John and I were in Kansas last June we were at the home of
one of his patrons (they own 13 of his paintings!) They cooked dinner for
us (beef tenderloin, yum!) and were giving us a tour of the house. Upstairs
in the master bedroom they had a guinea pig in a big glass - uh - fish tank?
Apparently their son got tired of the "pet" (don't you hate when that
happens?!) so they moved the fuzzy one into their room. Steve told me,
"Careful, she bites." Nonsense. I picked the guinea pig up, she chewed on
a strand of my hair, licked my cheek and started making PURRING sounds like
a cat! Steve just stood there, astounded. John said, "Animals love her!"
I patted the guinea pig on my shoulder and said, "It's because they know I
love *them*" :) John was afraid for a while there I'd want to go get my own
guinea pig!

I had a green budgie when I was a child and he was more often out of his
cage than in it. Given the chance he always used to land on my
grandfather's head and preen his hair. No-one else would do, it had to be
grandfather.
