ATTENTION REGULAR RPCA POSTERS:

We must get our group back! The calm oasis in the turbulent waters of
usenet that we all came to know and love. The group of friends who
supported each other and told each other stories about our cats and our
lives. The place where people could come and share their problems and
would find a support network.
There is only one way to do this, but we must ALL do it in order to
succeed.

IGNORE THE TROLLS

It's that simple! Don't reply to them. Ever. No matter how much they
make your blood boil. Ignore them. They will go away. I've been on
usenet for over a decade and this strategy always works. If we all
ignore them it's as if they weren't here.
Let's not let hatred win.

Victor,
you've got a recipe for chicken with "chocolate"/cacao sauce? or ideas of
where to find one?
you suppose I can manage to make it taste anything like the real stuff I
once had in Oaxaca?
=) well said - and food and chocolate will always be on topic here ..

ATTENTION SANE PEOPLE

The loons think they OWN this group. They want to live in
happyland and have taken this group totally off topic. The group
of friends who supported each other should take their whining
to an approptiate mental health group. They think that this is
"The place where people could come and share their problems and
would find a support network." Tell them to take it to a support group,
THIS GROUP IS ABOUT CATS.
There is only one way to do this, but we must ALL do it in order to
succeed.

KEEP CHANGING YOUR HEADERS

It's that simple! Don't let them whine without a challenge. Ever.
No matter how much they piss and moan about their depression.
Challenge them. They will OD on Prozac. I've been on
usenet for over a decade and this strategy always works.  If we all
challenge them it's as if they are expected to make sense. Let's not
let stupidity win.

"Nomen", controlled, and dictated to, by nobody. Especially
in an "Open" forum.
Go start a BLOG for the loons!

Not looking for a war, but I will shoot back when attacked.

And use anonymizers, and otherwise continue to demonstrate your
cowardice. Of course, when this is detected, and someone of sufficient
experience breaks anonymity, the spineless ones may need to find a new
posting medium after they've been ousted.

Feel up to confronting? My ID isn't hidden.  Go ahead. Make my day.

I have a better idea, Howard.  Why don't you go to a moderated cat
forum?

Your zeal for confrontation is a problem, not a solution.  A number of
people in these cat groups have demonstrated that they will take flame
wars to another level, with obnoxious phone calls and emails to
people's family and associates.  The Karma post was the ultimate
example - a nice piece of work, by the warped and self-serving
standards of RPCA, but an indication to the rest of the world that
this group is full of wannabe thugs who think they have a license to
harrass people in real life.

If you wanna play that way, you're gonna get a lot of anonymized
socks.  It's YOUR choice.

little bit of trolling. The rest is just a response to his attempt

He seems to be a very accomplished troll, judged by the

I suspect you will find several hundred, especially dealing with medical
issues, but commenting on others, as well as discussing the antics of
Rhonda, Ding, Mr. Clark, Clifford (RB) and Chatterley (RB). Apparently,

Um, What do you think those headers tell you?

All that says is that I post through anonymous remailers.
That's a given. I always post through remailers.
What else does that tell you?.......Nothing!!

Does that tell you that I'm "Sumkatz".......NO!
Does that tell you that I'm a troll.......NO!

The headers tell you....nothing!
Do you know what a PGP signed message is? I think
not.
A PGP signature is an indisputable identifier that shows
(if you understand PGP):
1) Who posted the message
2) That the message has not been altered in any way

I always put my signature on my posts. No matter what
remailer I use (and I will vary remailers as their reliability
changes), my posts are ALWAYS identified as coming
from me.

If you wonder why I use remailers, the answer can be
discovered by asking "Dan M" about some threatening
call he got, or someone who recently left this group
because of threatening e-mails (I think her name was
"Stacy", if I remember correctly.).
I could write a book about other reasons, but I hope
the short answer will suffice.

But I NEVER use socks!!!!

So call me opinionated......that's a given.
Call me a SOB......you may be right.
Call me an a.shole.......it wouldn't be the first time.

Howard's attack on "Sumkatz" was totally unwarranted
and just plain nasty. I've seen a few of his (her?) posts
and they have never been anything less than couteous
and civil. Hell, if you look closely at Howie's reply to
"Sumkatz", you'll see that he was actually replying to
himself and attributing it to "Sumkatz".
Howie seems to have information, I'll credit him with
that. But the guy is totally lacking in knowledge.

>Now be a good boy and go away, else we're going to have to start
>laughing at your pathetic trolling attempts in public

That nasty statement makes it difficult to offer a civil reply, but
I tried. For a group that likes to pretend it is full of "nice" people,
you folks are awfully quick to be mean to people.
There's a distinct pattern here:
1) Some "outsider" posts a sincere message in this group. (And
may I add that despite what many of you want to believe, this is
not YOUR group. It's a PUBLIC forum.)
2) The clique then posts some nasty replies to the "outsider".
3) The "outsider" responds to the nastiness
4) The clique gets even nastier to the "outsider" and pretends
that they are "nice" people.

Here's a newsflash, folks. YOU AIN'T "NICE" PEOPLE.

After two decades or so with newsgroups, the remedy varies with the
troll. I find ridicule and amusement especially destructive to their
fantasies of power. A good edit and clarification of their less literate
spew works at time.

Becoming upset by them is not effective. There may be technical
countermeasures if they leave themselves vulnerable to be caught under
ISP acceptable use policies.

Yes, ignoring may work, but it isn't a panacea.

Let me clue you in, Howie. This is just USENET!
And in usenet, a pgp sig is as "responsible" as it gets.
As I tried to illustrate, a name means nothing. Everyone
who posts here could identify themselves as
Howard C. Berkowitz. Only I can identify myself as me.
I guess you couldn't grasp that point.

You've been using true _NAMES_. How many true names

And BTW, people in New Orleans haven't had a problem

With your level of logic, you must work for the federal government.

I know just what you mean, Victor. I don't consider myself to be a troll
(others may) and when my posts do not receive replies, I feel less inclined
to stay around. So I imagine a troll, with more of a "need" for attention
than I, receives no replies, s/he/it will quit posting much quicker than I
would.

But another good strategy might be to thank the trolls for whatever they
say. Just "Thank you" for each and every nasty post. That might bore them
even faster than being ignored.

Living with seven cats in a tiny single-wide mobile home on a remote farm,
at the dead end of half a mile of private dirt road where the maxium speed
is about 8 MPH, I don't see an urgent need to keep the cats confined to the
house. If I tried to keep them all inside, they would get terribly
frustrated, as they have spent most of their time outdoors their whole
lives. I already have enough trouble with some of them fighting, and that
would get worse if they were forced to all occupy this space together all
the time.

Abelard is the only one with this extreme wanderlust. When I do keep him in
the house, he shows his displeasure by using it as a litterbox and setting a
bad example for the rest.

On the very remote chance that you are sincere and don't already know this,
"keeping Abelard in" is not a viable option.  Not all cats can or should be
kept exclusively indoors.  Some would simply escape and not return from what
they would view as captivity.

All evidence to the contrary it isn't a perfectly ordered world out there
where every problem has a simple single solution.

Thank you, Victor.

In the Amish communities in the US, there is a practice called
"shunning" when a member has been a problem.  No one speaks to the
shunned one or acknowledges his/her existence.  I suggest we take up
the practice, here and now.

I've been meaning to ask, are you dyslexic?

I've seen that done in grade school, also.
I'm beginning to think that the "regulars" here just get
their kicks out of being nasty to "outsiders".
Especially if they don't fall in line with their "clique"
mentality.
