We got the Aussie visa!  Hip, hip, hooray!!!  I can't believe it, just
opened the email first thing this morning, same as every other
morning, and there it was!  I started bawling and Vino couldn't figure
out what was wrong with me.  I had to dance around the house with him
while bawling and I got his fur all wet.  But he didn't mind :-)
I'm just sad that Dennis is away working and won't be back until
Sept.16.  I really want to pop the cork on the champagne but it seems
silly to do that by myself.
Anyway, we have to make an initial entry trip to Australia before Dec.
2, which is much sooner than we had thought.  We thought we'd have 6
months and were planning to go in January.  But now we'll be going in
November.  So I'll see you soon, Helen Wheels!
We won't be able to actually move over there until after March,
because of Vino.  It is going to be very hard to wait!  Oh well,
*anything* for our little boy.  And y'all wouldn't believe what we're
going through to get him over there.  Can't discuss it here, sorry!
So I just wanted to thank everyone for the visa purrs, they obviously
worked.  And a few purrs for getting Vino sorted out wouldn't hurt
either.

Hey, great news!
If you need a hand with anything from this end, just give me a yodel. Or
an email even. Anything we can do for his Royal Vinoship...

Thanks :-)  No need for help on your end though, seems that the whole
Vino thing needs to be taken care of from this end.  It'll be all
right.
I'll be in touch when the time gets closer to our initial entry trip
in November.  Can't wait!!! :-)

Yes, I know what you went through.  Fortunately it seems we have a
good vet who knows the whole process and handled it all for a friend
of a friends' dog when they moved to Australia.  So in that regard, I
think we're covered.  I'll let you know if we need any more info.

YAY!  That's *great* news Britta!  Welcome to Australia (even if
you'll be, geographically, living further from me than Bev does in New
Zealand!).

I hope that you'll find a way to visit the east coast now and again,

Congratulations!  I would love to make a move like that.  My great

Anyone from this NG is invited :-)
I just looooove Australia.  Somehow I think I was meant to live there.
When I was 10, my parents emigrated from Germany to Canada.  But they
had originally planned on moving to Australia, except it didn't work

Thank you so much, Kate.  And Vino sends tail purrs to Caramel.  He

Thanks, Victor :-)  It took 11 months and they say about a year is
average, so I guess we were pretty lucky.  But really the process was
more than 18 months if you include the whole time Dennis was studying
for his Australian licence, etc.
Sometimes I feel kinda guilty because things tend to work out for us
so well.  <knocking on wood>
We really invested a ton of money into this dream and I don't know
what we would have done if it hadn't worked out.  I guess it was meant
to be!

That's wonderful news! I was 99.99% sure you'd get it, but it still so
nice to have it confirmed. I've forgotten how long, Vino, will have to
be quarantined. That I imagine will be the most difficult part of the
move.

Yes, we were pretty sure too but you just never really know.  It is
such a relief knowing that the waiting and wondering and worrying is
over.  Now I just want to get over there right away!  I'll miss
Thailand terribly and we'll definitely come back here a lot
(especially for the shopping!) but I'm anxious to get on with "real
life".
We plan to make a large outdoor enclosure for Vino 'cause he would
like to be able to go out so badly.  I think he will benefit from this
move greatly.  And I plan to go back to school for a bit to learn
about the winery business.  I can't wait!!!
Vino's quarantine will be 1 month.  We've looked at the facilities
online and it all looks very good (although extremely expensive!).
Large enclosures, bring your own food, etc.  Just like if you were
boarding a cat for a holiday, I'd guess.  We'll be busy getting
organized over there for the first 2 weeks anyway, so I'm sure the
time will fly by for us.  We'll visit him as much as possible too.  I
hope he doesn't suffer.  But then, he's used to us going away for
trips all the time.  He will miss his maid but she's quitting anyway
in December because she wants to go back to the family banana
plantation.

Molly and Jake had a great time on their vacation while we were on vacation.
They spent two weeks in a cattery.  With their own 5x8 room, two windows, a
full view of the place thru their screen door, a better cat tree than they
have at home, rug covered sleeping shelves with large sleeping cubes (they
don't have that at home either.  Plus the run of the place including a huge
outside enclosure if they played nice with the other cats.  Jake was happy
to see us.  Molly was more like "hey, mom let me show you around our new
place."

Awwww, such a long time to be apart!  But I'm sure it'll be worth it
when he joins you in your new home.

It also sounds fascinating that you're thinking of studying winery.
They have a lot of winery grads in California, I recall.  In Australia
though, they'll probably teach you their own unusual techniques like
how to make wine from kangaroos and freshly squeezed eucalyptus
leaves.  (Just kidding, Yowie!)

Thanks, Yowie.  You can definitely expect a visit from us sometime.
We plan on taking no vacations outside Australia until we've seen the
entire country inside and out!  And we love Sydney so we definitely
want to come back there.  So we'll have to organize some sort of get
together with you guys and Tish and Jean and everyone when we come out
that way.

Thanks and LOL!  I remember too when my parents got the visa to
immigrate to Canada.  I was 10 years old and horrified at the concept
of moving to a country where I couldn't speak the language.  I also
thought that Canada was a godforsaken wasteland!  Didn't take me long
to change my mind though and it only took a few months to learn
English.  It's easy for kids.  We all got Canadian citizenship when I
was 13, but I didn't have to take the test so I didn't bother.
Typical teengager ;-)

Thanks :-)  Urgh, I'm already quaking in my shoes at the thought of
mastering the Oz language.  I'm sure it will be harder than when I had
to learn English at age 10 ;-)

I think it opens up more opportunities when you actually have a chance
of being able to speak the native language. :)

Congratulations and happy journeying to your new home,  Britta!  It's nice
to hear goodnews in the wake of Katrina's passing.  I hope all goes well
with Vino's immigration process, as well.  <G>

Thank you so much.  I feel bad about my exhuberance in the wake of
Katrina.  But being halfway around the world, I just can't help it.
Purrs for everyone affected by the awful hurricane.

Hurray!  That is good news, and I know that you are ecstatic about the
move.

Purrs are on the way for Vino becoming an Aussie.

can't *wait* to get there.  Lucky Vino gets to move to a new country :-)

Thanks, Susan :-)  Yup, I'm getting pretty antsy to get going now.
For some reason, we seem to make a major move every 5 years.  But this
will definitely be the last time!

Congratulations in a major way, Britta!  "Good on ya", albeit from a person
in the USA.

Thanks, Sam!  It's definitely a dream come true.  We got married in
Australia 9 1/2 years ago.  Now we'll actually be living in the same
country that our marriage certificate is from :-)
