Boyfriend seems to think that I'm not capable of being safe down the garden
to look after the chickens on my own.
It seems to stem back to last fall when I wrote how he'd accompanied me down
the path to check the chicken huts in the middle of the night in a raging
storm and wind.
I am obviously not to be trusted since then. It is, after all, a long way
in the dark, more than 100 yards. It must be quite dangerous in the morning
too.
BF may not be in the house when I get up. When I go to let out and feed the
chickens and geese he will appear and he will sit and watch at various
places as I work my way down, feeding and watering as I go. That seems be
quite okay with him, but it is seriously dangerous for me to walk back to
the house. He must walk in front of me, winding in and out of my legs to
guide me. I nearly fall over him. It's just like that "dogs dancing to
music" things that you see at Crufts.
It's been raining here almost all day, so both the cats have stayed in. I
was a little late shutting up the chickens and needed my headlight to find
my way down there. I hadn't gone far before I saw a reflective collar
shining right in front of me showing me the way. It was Boyfriend with his
tail raised right up, being a guardian cat again and he showed me the way
back to the house as well.
Ah, bless his little cotton socks, but he doesn't need to take on such
responsibility and I wish he wouldn't.
I just love him to bits, he has such a beautiful soul.

Are any of us REALLY ever worthy? =o) BF is a gem. He just wants to make
sure you get back safely to provide him with a lap and scritches. Maybe he
thinks your chicken care is a part of the reason you had to be in the
hospital this summer. So he's poised to fight off any danger that might
result from going to care for your birds. =o)

It's not that because I can count on the fingers of two hands the amount of
times he has jumped on my lap. It is a rare and precious experience.
Neither does he ask for scritches. He is shy and private.

I don't know, he mostly keeps his thoughts to himself ;-) I can't think of
a reason why he might connect the two things.
With my massive experience of having two cats (not!) I wonder if it's a
difference between the temperaments of a girlcat and a boycat.
Kitty would never dream of accompanying me down the garden in a storm or at
night, not even in her younger days. "Me, comfortable, *you* go down garden
in the dark and wet.."
She is so selfish, always out for number one (herself) I really thought all
cats were like this.
Until Boyfriend blessed me with his company. And to think I wanted to take
him to the cat's home <hangs head in shame>

Of course not. Rain isn't so bad, but you actually went out
when a big wind was blowing? Any cat would conclude that you
need a keeper. Boyfriend was a brave kitty to face the elements
and bring you safe home.

This is like Smokey's incessant shrieking when he sees me or DP on the
balcony.
"Mom! Dad! That's OUTSIDE out there! Come in before it GETS you!"
